I transformed my backyard with a DIY pond and fountain for $26.99 – it was so easy, all you need is a big pot | The Sun

A DIY devotee has transformed her backyard with a pond and a fountain, all for just $26.99.

She said her glow-up was easily achieved and all you needed for something similar in your garden was a big pot.

Her idea was simple and within the reach of even the most inept of gardeners.

The clever idea came from Shavonne (@onceuponabungalow), whoseTikTok is all about “Design, DIY, and plants."

Her platform has proved to be popular building up a following of over 129,000 and gaining another 2 million likes.

In this post, she was giving her attention to a garden feature.

“I’m going to show you how we built this super simple patio pond," she explained, assisted by some young helpers.

“All you need is a pot with no holes in it. If you do have some holes in your pot, you can just patch them up with some tape," she said.

The next job was to fill it with water. After this was the fun part.

"You’re gonna add any pond plants you’d like," she said. She went for water hyacinths and water lettuce.

Finally, it was the special water effect: “Now this is the cool part. We’re going add this solar fountain to the pond."

She advised her followers what to look out for: "Going want to look for a fountain with a battery pack on it so that it does run even when the sun’s not hitting it directly."

Once everything was in place, Shavonne said there were even more special effects if you wanted them.

“You can add lights, you can add fish. You can do so much with this.”

The post was liked over 47,000 times and attracted hundreds of comments.

Commenters pitched in with their own recommendations.

“Add lemon grass to prevent mosquitoes,” suggested this fan.

“I think it’s lovely and relaxing to listen to. Advice to help in case algae starts, just add a small piece of copper tube dropped in, it will help," offered this viewer.

But the final commenter was pining for one of her own: “I desperately need something like this," they said.
