Michele recommended starting with strength training.
She said strength is associated with mobility and the ability to do the essential functions of everyday life.

She said: “The stronger you are, the lower your chances of falling and breaking a bone.
“Muscle mass also has a protective effect that helps people survive cancer and other diseases.
“Another benefit of muscle is that it drives your metabolic rate because muscle tissue is a major metabolic organ and the primary consumer of glucose in the body.
“It also protects against diabetes.
"A lack of muscle means the body won’t cope well with a surge of glucose into the blood after high-carbohydrate meals.
“Over time poor glucose tolerance is associated with inflammation, insulin resistance, and diabetes.”
Michele explained that intense interval training is an essential part of every workout program because it boosts “energy factories in cells, known as mitochondria.”
She added that flexibility shouldn’t be overlooked when exercising as it’s one of the first things we lose if we become less active with age.
She said: “Good news is there are a number of ways to maintain and increase flexibility.
“Stretching after workouts or separate from training sessions can help overly tight muscles which is important for preventing tendinitis and inflammation in connective tissue.”
Michele explained that exercise also helps to maintain good balance as you age.
She followed the post with a video showing her grueling leg day workout.
She encouraged people in midlife to build their quads with exercises including heavy deadlifts, leg extensions, leg presses, and squats.
