I'm a designer – the Met Gala star who 'sets the tone' and the icons who 'should be there' but were almost uninvited | The Sun

ONE American fashion designer has spilled his Met Gala star wishlist and revealed the model figure who "sets the tone" for the night.

Brandon Blackwood said certain A-listers don't deserve the boot from "fashion's biggest night out" — pop culture calls for them.

Blackwood spoke to The U.S. Sun at the 2023 AAFA American Image Awards hosted by The American Apparel & Footwear Association.

The Brooklyn-born creative is the CEO of his eponymous fashion label known for its modish line of accessories.

Between a new colorful collaboration with Starbucks and becoming a Council of Fashion Designers of America member, Blackwood is marking the industry more every day.

And although he won't physically be on the red carpet for The Met Gala this year, his designs will be.

He said: "We are doing some accessories and shoes for a couple of people, so I'm excited to see them."

Though Blackwood didn't know every celebrity who would be in attendance, he wasn't shy in admitting the star sightings he was looking forward to.

"I hope Laverne (Cox) goes. I'm excited to see Kerry Washington, the Hadids, and Kendall Jenner," he proclaimed.

Reacting to rumors that Anna Wintour was "cracking down" on her guest list and the Kardashians wouldn't be invited — which Kim has denied — Blackwood said he couldn't imagine them not being there.

He said: "I don't know, but I love them. I think they're like awesome.

"I think they should be there."

Aside from the celebrity family's imprint on fashion, Blackwood thought their presence was necessary for social purposes.

"I think they're just like iconic. They are pop culture, so it would make sense that they go," Blackwood admitted.

He didn't go as far as naming any one of them "Queen of The Met Gala," though.

Blackwood deemed Rihanna as such and prayed she would stun everyone with her baby bump on the coveted steps.

However, the designer only sees one attendee as the star precedent each year — and she's the attendee.

"I love seeing Anna Wintour's fit," Blackwood said.

"It's like the first one that hits the carpet and sets the tone."
