PAINTING is one of those tasks that many of us try and stall for as long as possible – and with good reason.

Not only is it time-consuming, but the arduous chore can work out pretty pricey if you don't have all of the right equipment to do the job.


But one DIY guru has revealed her clever hack she swears by for speeding up the painting process while keeping costs down – and you'll never need a paintbrush again.

And the best part of all?

You won't even need to leave your house…because you've already got it!

In the clip shared to TikTok, Marley, who posts under the acronym @marley.makes.things, can be seen putting on a rubber glove on her hand, before adding a sock over the top.

She then dips the sock, which can be bought for as little as 80p, into a pot of black paint and glides it up and down the table.

"So the sock method is a painting method that I've been using for a few years," she explains.

"I did not invent this, but it works super well.

"Basically you just take a disposable glove and put that on your hand and then top it off with a clean sock."

She continues: "Very important – it needs to be clean.

"And then you just dip your sock hand into the paint and then rub it on your surface.

"It works really well for getting a very smooth coat of paint without any brush strokes.

"I typically use this for painting furniture, but I also used it for painting my railings, which I highly recommend because it gets in and out of all the little crevices and shows no brush strokes."

It wasn't long before the clip went viral, racking up over 2.1 million views and several comments from super impressed social media users.

"Fantastic! No mess with paint getting everywhere," wrote one.

A second penned: "Not me considering painting my walls with 2 socked hands."

A third enthused: "Everybody's so creative."

Meanwhile, a fourth added: "This would be so good for staining wood too!"
