I'm a mum-of-one & have made £15,000 in one year renting out my clothes as a side hustle – it helps me pay for childcare | The Sun

A STYLISH mum-of-one has revealed how she's made a staggering £15,000 in one year thanks to her side hustle.

Tiffany Luckett, 31, from Ascot, who is Director at Savills, has an 18-month-old daughter called Ophelia with her partner, Hugo.

But despite having her hands full with a toddler and full-time job, that hasn't stopped Tiffany from setting up a very successful side hustle.

In June 2021, the savvy mum joined By Rotation – an App which allows members of the public to rent from over 40,000 designer dresses, bags and shoes from others.

Since then, Tiffany has raked in a staggering £15,000 in just one year – with the money helping to cover the costs of childcare.

Speaking exclusively to Fabulous, Tiffany, who is a UK size 8, explains: "I've always really been into fashion and brands from an early age but often thought about how wasteful it seemed to have tonnes of dresses in my wardrobe that don't frequently get used.

"I used to utilise sites such as eBay to make money from selling items after wearing them, but the re-sale value for items that had barely been worn is so low and just didn't seem worth it.

"I had often thought renting out items made so much more sense (and this way I didn't have to part with my beautiful clothes!) so when I saw By Rotation on Instagram I signed up immediately."

To date, Tiffany has over 90 items available for fashion fans to rent – with prices ranging from £30-£120 for three days.

"There are options out there for every budget and they're purposefully competitive with the high street which is amazing and really does challenge the huge problems we are facing with fast fashion," she explains.

As for the most popular items, the mum-of-one says this can vary…

"Some of my most popular ones have included a velvet Reformation dress, a Galvan jumpsuit and a few Harmur silk midi dresses," Tiffany notes.

"The ski stuff also does so well!

"I've generally found that people are very happy to spend around £50 on an item for a few days. So some of the more expensive stuff doesn't rent as well."

Speaking more specifically of the brands that seem to do well, Tiffany adds: "Contemporary womenswear does very well.

"Reformation, Self Portrait, Ganni. A few more premium brands such as Patbo, Zimmermann and Jacquemus are also very popular."

And joining By Rotation hasn't just improved Tiffany's bank balance – it's also completely changed the way she shops.

"I now actively avoid buying anything from high street brands because I'd prefer to invest money into something from a better brand and know I can make some of the cost back on it," she explains.

"I also think about what would work well for other rotators and buy accordingly."

With her successful side hustle raking in £15,000 so far, Tiffany has put the money to good use – and used it to help pay for childcare.

"Having had a baby 18 months ago and being a full-time working mother, it's a huge adjustment to be spending £1500 a month minimum on childcare costs," she says.

"By Rotation has given me that extra money I am missing out on and allowed me to be able to have money left over to treat myself or to put towards new things that we need.

"More recently I spent some of the money on my wedding dress as I am getting married in 2023!"

Tiffany is delighted with how well her side hustle has taken off – especially as it fits so well into her busy schedule as a working mum.

"My life is very hectic working full-time, having a small child and having a side hustle," she says.
