A 22-year-old travel nanny, known on TikTok as ‘livvykaykay’ has shared her quick and simple top tip for getting children to cooperate with you and she claims it works every time.

Not only this, but it takes just a matter of seconds and is totally free.

So prepare to have your mind blown with this very clever parenting tip.

The nanny uploaded a video to TikTok, explaining her tip, with the caption ‘I wish I knew this sooner!’

She said: “I’m about to show you that if you give a kid a choice, they will always, most likely, 99% of the time, do what you want them to do.”

In the video, we see the nanny talking to a child, as she asks “Did you poo?” to which the young girl says “no”.

The nanny then checks the little girls’ nappy and says “Can we go change your diaper?”, to which the girl bluntly says “no”. 

The nanny then explains that by asking this kind of closed question to a child, you aren’t giving them an option.

Instead, the nanny highlights the importance of giving children options when speaking to them. 

She then asks the girl “I think it’s time to change your diaper, do you want to walk or do you want me to carry you upstairs?”.

The choice here for the young child is either to walk or to be carried and the child then responds with “me walk”.

Following this, the nanny explained “If you really give a kid a choice, they will do what you want them to do.

“So in this case, if I just say, let’s go change your diaper, they’re not going to want to do it and they’ll say no.

“But if I say, do you want to walk or do you want me to carry you, then she has to choose one of them and I end up getting her up the stairs and in the bathroom, to change her diaper.

“And the same goes if you're getting ready to leave or taking your kids for nap time, just give them a choice.

“For example, you can say, it’s time to go, do you want to put your coat on first or your shoes? And then they have to choose one but they’re that much closer to getting ready. 

“99% of the time, if you give them a choice, you get them to do what you want them to do. Enjoy.” 

The nanny’s clever tip has clearly impressed many, as the video has racked up a whopping 7.3million views.

It has 1.4million likes, 6,353 comments and 19.3k shares.
