I’m an Aldi super fan – the hidden meaning in the colored labels & why you NEED to shop on Wednesdays

PLANT-based blogger and shopping expert Mary Allyson Martin has revealed her best tips for shopping at German-owned supermarket chain, Aldi.

She told customers they must shop at the store on Wednesdays to get the best deals and what the colored labels really mean, among many other tips.

WHY WEDNESDAYS?

Martin's first tip in the video she posted to her YouTube channel encouraged shoppers to visit Aldi on Wednesdays in order to get the best deals.

"This is when they restock their Aldi Finds section," she claimed.

"So this is a section of the store that isn’t necessarily just groceries.

"They do have some grocery items but it’s a lot of new items, specialty products, and seasonal products as well."

Martin noted that some of her past finds include memory foam bath mats and reusable straws.

She continued: "Wednesdays are also when they pick their Produce Picks of the Week and slash the prices tremendously.

"So there will just be a few random pieces of produce they will decrease the price and you can stock up on those if you want."

She recalled that she recently bought organic tomatoes for $2.49, which is a deal she highly approved.

“If you go anywhere else, they’re going to be at least $3 or more – especially for organic.”

Martin also noted that the items that went on sale the previous Wednesday will still be on sale through the following Wednesday.

"You’ll get double the Produce Picks of the Week along with all of the leftover Aldi’s Finds section," she said.

Martin claimed that people will sometimes line up at the store to get their hands on the sale items, so it's always best to get there on a Wednesday or you run the risk of missing out on a popular product.

HOW DO PEOPLE KNOW WHAT'S FOR SALE?

The people lining up outside of Aldi aren't doing it blindly.

Martin said they likely check Aldi's website to see what would be on sale that day.

"Their website has more information about the deals that they have this week and it shows you all of the Aldi's Finds products that are coming that week and it even shows you the stuff for the next week so you have two weeks in advance of knowing what you want or what you don't want," Martin explained.

She said Aldi also has a paper version of the information available in the store, but it won't have as many details as the website.

GET YOUR SPICES!

Martin recommended that all shoppers buy their spices from Aldi because they're affordable.

"Their conventional spices are only like $0.95 each," she noted.

She added that their selection is "really great" considering Aldi is a smaller scale grocery store.

She specifically gushed over Aldi's vanilla extract, which is sold for $3.40 for a 2-ounce bottle.

She said it can be sold for upwards of $10 at other retailers.

She also noted there's a rumor that Aldi's spices are actuallyMcCormick brand with an Aldi label on them.

Money-saving blogger Becky Guiles previously shared this supposed secret as well.

DEALS ARE RED HOT!

In addition to Produce Picks of the Week, Martin said the grocery chain offers Red Hot Specials.

"These are discounted items on top of already low prices and a lot of these items are either stuff that is going away for good, not really coming back, [or] going low in stock, so they're discounting these prices for you," Martin divulged.

She said these deals roll out on Sundays and encouraged folks to stock up.

ALDI IS FOR ALL

"For being a smaller grocery store, they have tons of options for every type of shopper, from vegan, gluten-free, organic, and just traditional grocery items," Martin shared.

She said Aldi even has their own line of vegan items, which is called Earth Grown, and gluten-free items, which is called LiveGFree.

She gushed that they're all offered at digestible prices and noted that many of the LiveGFree products are also vegan.

Martin also recommended their Simply Nature line, Aldi's "naturally and mostly organic" line.

"A lot of their Simply Nature products are vegan and/or gluten-free.

"Literally so many items that are high quality, organic, and just taste really great for a really great price," she said.

COLORS ARE IMPORTANT

Martin said that Aldi's price tags have different meanings, which is something "only seasoned shoppers" would know.

She said that different colors tell customers when products are low in stock or if they're always going to be there.

Specifically, she explained that yellow tags are "core items" offered by Aldi and should always be available in the store.

"If you see a red and white sticker that says 'Aldi Finds,' obviously that means it's an Aldi Find," she continued.

"This is something that can rotate in and out or it might not come back at all so if it's something you want to get, go ahead and grab it.

Next, Martin noted that there could be black and white Aldi Finds stickers.

"This means that it's either seasonal or it's limited stock and that it will not come back.

"So if you see the back and white tag and it's something that you really want, you definitely wanna stock up on that because it's more than likely not going to come back," she claimed.

She also described a white tag with a blue heart that is sometimes placed next to items with a yellow tag.

The hearts will have writing in them reading "fan favorite," "new item," or "seasonal favorite," according to Martin.

She said these tags are meant to tell people if an item is new or popular and encourage people to try it out.

Finally, she said green and white tags are normally used on produce, except when red and white tags are.

If produce has a red and white tag, it means it's part of the Produce Picks of the Week sale.

REFUNDS ARE ALLOWED

"Secret No. 7," Martin claimed, "is that Aldi has one of the best refund policies that I've ever seen at really any grocery store.

"This is called the Twice as Nice Guarantee.

"So this means if you have a product that is low quality, is not up to your standards, you didn't like it, you can take it back to Aldi and get a full refund along with a replacement."

Martin noted that you must have a receipt, or you'll get merchandise credit instead.

She also said the Twice as Nice Guarantee is only for grocery items.

If you want to return an Aldi Finds product, you can get afull refund without a replacement item, according to Martin.

"This is just a really nice guarantee that they have knowing that if you go into the store and you buy something that is not up to your standards, you can take it back and get your refund," she stated before recalling a time she effortlessly used the policy with a produce item.

BOXES ARE UP FOR GRABS

Martin claimed that if you see an empty box lying around an Aldi store, you can take it and use it as a grocery bag.

"This does a couple of things.

"It helps reduce the cost of the prices of just everything in general because they're not having to use grocery bags and it helps save the environment, reducing the plastic waste going into landfills," she explained.

ALDI KEEPS IT SAFE

Aldi doesn't just keep the health of the environment in mind, but it also cares about the health of its customers.

Martin revealed Aldi does not put MSG, artificial colors, or partially hydrogenated oils in its products.

The company announced the measure in 2015 after listening to complaints from customers.

ALDI IS AFFORDABLE

By the end of Martin's educational video, consumers probably get the idea that Aldi is an affordable grocery store.

In case they didn't, Martin made sure to emphasize this in her tenth and final tip in her video.

"In general, Aldi's produce is cheaper than really any other grocery store," she gushed.

She added that their avocados are especially discounted and claimed she bought some for $0.29 each in the past.

"They also have a really good selection of organic produce that is a very reasonable price," she continued.

While Martin did admit she has heard of people being unhappy with Aldi's produce, she noted she has never had ongoing problems with it and fully believes in the quality of their produce considering their Twice as Nice policy.

"[It] makes me think that their quality is going to be pretty high knowing that they're gonna have to refund people money all of the time because they didn't like the quality of it," she said.
