A PRO interior designer has shared the top mistakes people make when decorating their homes, explaining that it makes it look “cheap”. 

Taking to her social media page, Brie Turton told viewers: “Here are the five things you might accidentally be doing that make your home look cheap coming from an interior designer.” 



The very first thing she said looks cheap is IKEA furniture. 

Instead, she urged viewers to “swap IKEA for Facebook Marketplace” as you can get similar items that are “way more premium” at a similar budget. 

“Number two is mass produced art,” she continued. “Is it technically art? I guess. Is it giving expensive? Absolutely not.” 

She then warned people from placing a rug that’s way too small in their living room.

Brie explained that not only does it feel non-cohesive but it also makes you feel like the “space wasn’t thought out”. 

She went on: “Number four, furniture sets. I will not be making any further comment on this”.

In the caption, she added: “5 things you might be doing that make your home look cheap.” 

People were quick to flock to the comments section as one person wrote: “thank you for affirming my decision that our small apartment DID need an oversized rug”. 

TikTok user @studiobrie replied: “Always trust your instincts”. 

Another person shared: “IKEA has some very pretty and tasteful options. Sure, there are cheap options, but they do a good job with timeless peaces.” 

Brie responded: “Yeah I agree I just think everyone has them so it doesn’t seem as curated,” followed by a white heart emoji.

A third revealed: “My dad lined our entire top of the kitchen cabinets with empty gin bottles,” with a thumbs up emoji. 

“My dad did the same but with boutique beer bottles,” Brie replied with a skull emoji. 

While a fourth added: “Spot on!” alongside a clapping hands emoji.
