Kate Middleton was ‘tortured’ by bullies for being gangly at school, claims royal expert

KATE Middleton may be the nation’s sweetheart and future Queen Consort, but a royal expert claims she was tormented by bullies at school.

Royal biographer Kate Nicholl suggests that although the duchess may be living the dream now, life and people weren’t always the kindest to her.

According to Nicholl, the all-girls school Downe House, in Berkshire, where Kate attended at the age of 13, is supposedly incredibly cliquey.

Apparently the stylish and classy Kate the public all know, and love was a far cry from her current self during her school days.

Nicholl claims that pupils would pick on Kate because she was “gangly” and “lanky,” and that supposedly she felt left out after not being chosen for the school’s lacrosse team.

She claims that Kate stood out for all the wrong reasons with her slender and tall frame – something now Kate is praised for.

Kate’s former schoolmate, Emma Sayle, from her time at Downe House, Berkshire, told the Mirror that Kate was tormented by a group of mean girls during her time at Downe House.

Emma said to RSVPLive: “Everyone wanted to be the best, the fittest, the prettiest. I think Kate was miserable from the start."

It’s hard to imagine Kate, the classic English rose, would have ever fell victim of such a thing.

The duchess joined the school at age 13, two years later than the majority of her school year.

According to Nicholl another former schoolmate of Kate’s, Georgina Rylance, claiming that this could have been a contributing factor to her misery.

Georgina previously said to the Sunday Times: “It does make a difference going from eleven.

“You have two years of bonding, your first time away all together.

“Even some of the most popular girls in my school had a hard time when they came in at thirteen.”

Only after a couple of years at Downe House, Kate moved in the middle of the academic year to another exclusive school, Marlborough College in Wiltshire.

It is speculated that Kate left the all-girls after being teased and that her time at Downe House had taken a toll on her and was branded “too sensitive” by school officials.

Headmistress Cameron claimed that she had no knowledge of any serious bullying taking place.

She said: “Yes, there would be teasing.

“It's all a part of the normal competition of growing up, of establishing a pecking order.”

Back in 2018, a schoolmate from Kate’s time at Marlborough College claimed she arrived at the school with virtually no confidence.

Gemma Williamson told the Daily Mail: “Apparently she had been bullied very badly and she certainly looked thin and pale.”

Kate is now lauded for her tall and elegant stature and has paved the way for fashion-forward royals.
