Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced they are having a girl, who is due in the next few months. The couple seem to have skipped some Royal Family baby traditions during Meghan’s pregnancies.
Experts commented on Royal Family traditions over the years on the Channel 4 documentary.
Many royals have followed traditions such as appearing for a photo call shortly after the birth of their child.
This is something that was done by royals including Princess Diana, Sarah Ferguson and Kate Middleton.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex instead opted to show their son to the world the following day in a brief photo call.
Meghan also opted for a lavish baby shower in New York which reportedly cost £232,000.
This pregnancy tradition was not publicly followed by other royals.
Speaking in the documentary, experts also explained how royal pregnancy fashion changed by the time royals like Kate and Meghan gave birth.
“Pregnancy fashion reflected attitudes of confinement and covering up,” the narrator said.
“The Queen’s clothes mirrored this approach.”
At each time when the Queen was pregnant, most royal women did not show their bumps.
This is something the monarch followed and was rarely photographed during her pregnancies.
However, this has changed over the years with royals including Princess Diana, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle showing their bumps.
The narrator continued: “Fast forward 60 years and the Windsors were out and pregnancy proud.”
An expert stated Sarah Ferguson and Princess Diana both opted for maternity frocks and were regularly seen during their pregnancies.
In the 2000s, royals continued to carry out engagement while they were expecting.
Experts on the programme commented on Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s style.
“In the 21st century, royal mums could combine style with practical sophistication,” the narrator stated.
Kate is the mother-of-three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
A royal expert commented on the outfits preferred by the Duchess of Cambridge during her pregnancies.
“Catherine, of course, looked so elegant and had some beautiful coat dresses made,” they said.
“Being so tall, she just looked wonderful.”
Her sister-in-law Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their first child, Archie, in May 2019.
During her pregnancy, the expert added Meghan opted for more “trendy” ensembles.
They concluded: “Meghan went for the more trendy look of showing the bump and wearing tight clothes.
“She would always have her hand resting on her bump.”
