Minuit RTW Fall 2021

Inspired by the androgynous minimalism of 1990s dressing, Laurie Arbellot and Marion Anais Forand honed their message with their second Minuit collection, combining sharp masculine tailoring with transparent second-skin pieces in high-end fabrics sourced largely in Italy.

The look: Collarless tailored pantsuits with a tomboy feel were paired with barely there silk crepe bralette and accessorized with chain jewelry hung with hand-blown glass baubles. More feminine pieces played on transparency, treated in gauzy muslin or cotton and silk jacquard, or hugged the body in fluid viscose.

Quote of note: “The collection resembles us,” explained Arbellot during a Zoom call. “I love wearing men’s clothes, being feminine but showing just the right amount of skin.”

Standout pieces: A transparent, fitted white cotton and silk jacquard dress with a striped pattern and square neckline; a collarless, single-buttoned white charmeuse jacket, its back featuring a zip down its full length, to be worn open or closed, with black ribbon ties; a mohair teddy-bear dressing gown coat that added a touch of softness to the lineup.

Takeaway: Arbellot and Forand want to fill what they see as a gap in the market for women like them — in their thirties, with an eye for design and a love of masculine-feminine dressing but without the budget for high-end designer brands. Feedback has been strong for their first collection, just arriving in stores, and they didn’t miss a step with this follow-up.
