My wife found out I only started dating her to get revenge on someone – now she wants to divorce me

A DEVASTATED husband has revealed that his wife is contemplating divorce after learning he originally asked her out to get revenge on his cousin.

The man now feels awful and isn’t sure what to do.

The poster, who shared his story anonymously on Reddit, explained that his cousin, Steven, slept with his crush in high school (who he named Stacey for the sake of the story).

So when Steven was flirting with a girl named Jane in class, the poster made a move on her to get revenge.

Jane is now his wife.

The man said the truth came out when Steven and Stacey – who had ironically reconnected – were having dinner with him and his wife at their home.

“We were reminiscing about old times and our rivalry came up,” he explained, adding that he admitted to liking Stacey before Steven slept with her.

“I then added, ‘But the rivalry ended up working out for me, I asked Jane out as revenge because I knew you had a crush on her, and now we're married.’”

Steven and Stacey were not happy this information came out, as Stacey felt like a “prize,” but that’s not the worst thing that happened.

The husband thought his wife was upstairs putting their child down – but he was wrong.

“I could see the horror in Stacey's face and realized that my wife was standing behind me, sobbing,” he wrote.

He added that his wife has always been super self-conscious about her looks and he was the first guy to ever ask her out, so this was a major blow to her self-esteem.

“I started trying to apologize and explain that I love Jane very much NOW, I fell in love with her wonderful personality, her kindness, her intelligence, and so on,” he said.

However, his wife refused to listen to his apologies.

“Now Stacey and Steven have broken up and he is blaming me, but even worse, my wife [is] threatening to divorce me over this whole thing,” the poster continued.

“She says our entire relationship was based on a lie, and she will never be able to look at me, or our relationship, in the same way.”

The internet didn’t have many words of advice for the distraught husband, and instead condemned his behavior.

“You’ve got no one else to blame. You objectify women. Your wife deserves better. Hopefully she reads this and leaves you,” one user slammed.

“Your poor wife. How absolutely horrible and damaging to her self-esteem and self-confidence.

“I don't see you coming back from this. Maybe counseling,” a second person wrote.

“I would divorce you. She deserves to be with someone who finds her attractive,” another shocked user commented.

“Your entire relationship is built on some petty testosterone game.”

While the poster probably did not find much comfort in the public’s reaction to his confession, he might be comforted by the fact that he’s not alone.

A woman previously shared on Reddit that her husband threatened to divorce her if she didn’t agree to name their unborn child his family moniker.

Perhaps, they can support each other through these trying times.
