We test four creams that can nourish and repair to combat dryness and irritation | The Sun

EVEN in the summer, some skin types need a nourishing day cream to combat dryness, irritation, sensitivity, redness and flaking.

Today I look at the creams that can nourish and repair.

BUDGET

NIVEA Q10 Power Anti-Wrinkle + Firming face cream, 50ml (£5.74, boots.co.uk): This nourishing cream claims to fight lines and wrinkles and leave skin visibly firmer thanks to ingredients Q10, a powerful antioxidant for natural ageing defence, and creatine, a substance found naturally in cells

It also has SPF 15 and UVA/UVB protection to guard against sun-induced wrinkle formation and premature skin ageing.

For less than £6, this is an absolute winner.

If you have skin that is as dry as mine, you know you can slather it on without panicking about the price.

My skin felt and looked deeply nourished.

And I love the added SPF and the fresh smell. My favourite.

MID RANGE

Trilogy Vital Moisturising Cream, 60ml (£26.50, trilogyproducts.co.uk): A brilliant day or night moisturiser that borders on a balm.

It features a unique rosehip and super antioxidant complex called Rosapene, which has been developed by clean beauty expert, Trilogy.

It also contains omega-rich marula, evening primrose oil, soothing aloe vera and chamomile flower extract, plus a mix of nourishing oils including tomato seed, cranberry, carrot, acai fruit and sunflower and vitamin E.

If you don’t like the smell of rose, this isn’t for you.

It sinks right into your skin leaving a stunning glow and the perfect base for make-up. Suitable for all skin types.

LUXURY

Naturopathica Calendula Essential Hydrating Cream 50ml (£60, bit.ly/3dpKAUZ): This deeply moisturising cream contains anti-inflammatory calendula extract from the marigold plant to soothe dry, sensitive skin, and conditioning borage seed oi, which helps soften the skin.

It can be used morning and night and you only need a pea-size amount. It is very nourishing and sinks straight in.

But oddly, while the main ingredients are aloe vera, rose and neroli, the overwhelming scent is lavender.

It smells gorgeous but a bit overpowering.

I don’t like it for the day as the cream feels sticky for quite a long time after applying.

I found it is much better as a nourishing night cream.
