We worked at Aldi and here are the best and worst bits of the job… including what we think of the pay

WORKING in a supermarket can be pretty tiring, but there are some benefits.

These ex-employees shared what they really think of stacking the shelves, and they didn't hold back.

Revealing what some of them said in a TikTok, this user revealed that loads of staff agree that they're overworked.

Bad communication with management seemed to be another common issue, "they expect you to always be available if they need extra people to come in short notice," one shared.

This person said on Glassdoor said they wanted to do their job well when they started their role, but soon felt like they were overworked.

"The company was constantly reactive to what other retailers would do and we worked in excess of 60 hours per week."

But when the staff complained about the lack of work-life balance they didn't get the response they were hoping for.

"They did not care, we were told we were only a number and there was a 'talent pool large enough to replace us, so just go' if we did not like having our lives taken away from us regardless of our life commitments."

Another former store assistant, from Newcastle upon Tyne, agreed that there are loads of issues in the store.

"Management pass on their jobs to you because they can’t be bothered and spend most of the time having coffee breaks," they confessed.

"Work-life balance is non existent," they continued, "you get told you aren’t allowed to leave even though your shift had finished and you can’t make plans an hour after your finish time."

When it comes to pay, things looked more positive and the employees had fewer complaints.

A worker from Willenhall said: "Good pay and fast paced so the time passes quickly If you’re on the shop floor."

A deputy store manager chimed in saying: "It has good pay, but you earn it."

And if you're lucky enough to let along with your co-workers, the job seems to be a breeze.
