Grammy Award-winning actress Bette Midler, 77, has finally admitted to having work done on her face for the very first time – after facing years of speculation and rumors that she had gone under the knife.
The singer and on-screen star made the shocking revelation last night during an acceptance speech at the Costume Designers Guild Awards in Los Angeles, California, where she joked: ‘Time has a way of smoothing everything out.’
‘I’ve been at it for close to 60 years… and I do look fabulous, I know,’ she is then heard saying in a video obtained exclusively by DailyMail.com, before confessing: ‘I’ve had some tailoring done on my face.’
Prior to last night’s event, where Bette took home the Distinguished Collaborator Award, the actress had never publicly addressed any plastic surgery rumors – despite the fact that her suspiciously smooth visage and ageless appearance have been the subject of serious speculation for years.

The actress (seen left in 1980, center in 1988 and right in 2008) has never confirmed that she had plastic surgery before – but her ageless looks have long been the subject of speculation
While she has mostly stayed mute on the subject in the past, Bette (seen left in 2016 and right on Monday) did admit in 2008 that she was considering getting plastic surgery
In the past, plastic surgery experts theorized that she underwent a face lift, and received Botox injections and facial fillers – and while she didn’t specify what work she had done last night, she finally confirmed that she has indeed altered her appearance.
While she has mostly stayed mute on the subject in the past, Bette did admit that she was considering getting plastic surgery while speaking to Extra in 2008.
She said at the time, ‘Doesn’t everybody consider it? When it really starts to cave in, I probably will start to give it a real good think.’
While speaking to the audience before giving her the award, Bette’s designer friend Michael Kaplan recalled one time that the Hollywood icon was mistaken for a Sears department store employee.
He explained that they were shopping together in Los Angeles when he told her to wait for him while he tried some things on in the dressing room.
‘When I returned, they were mistaking her for a clerk, customers were lining up [saying], “Miss, I have three dresses to try on.”
‘Was she peeved? Not in the slightest. She replied, “Dressing room number three is free hun.”‘
Many of Hollywood’s leading ladies have admitted to going under the knife over the years.
Take Oscar-award winning actress Jane Fonda, 85, for example, who confirmed that her age-defying appearance was not only from her genes in her 2018 Netflix documentary, Jane Fonda in Five Acts.
‘I’m glad I look good for my age, but I’ve had plastic surgery,’ she said. ‘I’m not going to lie about that.’
The Barberella star explained that she ‘got tired of looking tired,’ but added, ‘I hate the fact that I’ve had the need to alter myself physically to feel that I’m OK.
‘I wish I wasn’t like that. I love older faces. I love lived-in faces. I loved Vanessa Redgrave’s face. I wish I was braver. But I am what I am.’

Madonna, 64, seemingly confirmed that she’d had work done after fans took to social media to express their concern over her drastically different appearance when she attended the Grammys Awards last month.
Many people branded the singer as ‘unrecognizable’ after she took to the stage to present an award at the event.
She responded to the comments by sharing a picture of herself to Twitter days later, while writing, ‘Look how cute I am now that swelling from surgery has gone down. Lol’ – but she didn’t share any other details regarding the specific procedure that she received.
Sharon Stone, 64, has also spoken out about getting work done. She told Vogue Arabia in 2018 that she had regular Botox injections during the height of her career – until she suffered a serious stroke in 2001.
‘There were periods in the super fame when I got Botox and filler and stuff, and then I had this massive stroke and a nine-day brain hemorrhage and I had to have over 300 shots of Botox and filler to make the one side of my face come up again,’ she revealed.
The Basic Instinct star said the incident changed her outlook on plastic surgery altogether, making it go from a ‘cute luxury to some massive, painful neurological need.’
She also told the publication that a younger man she had recently dated asked her if she was would consider using cosmetic enhancements once again, to which she said she replied, ‘It would probably be really good for your ego and mine if I did.’
She added that the relationship ended shortly afterwards, stating, ‘I saw him one more time after that and then he wasn’t interested in seeing me anymore.
‘If you don’t see me for more than that, you’ll please find your way to the exit.’
