Bloke takes gamble on £500 Amazon pallet – then scoops ‘insane’ jackpot

A YouTuber who took a punt on an Amazon returns pallet ended up making a massive profit on his investment. Although, he admitted, he might not sell all of his haul because he was tempted to keep a few of the items for himself.

Connor Gorman, host of the ConnorTV YouTube channel, admitted he was completely baffled by some of the items he had bought – sight unseen – from a liquidation company for $675 (£547). As he pulled the first item out, it took him quite a while to work out that it was a collapsible laundry basket.

The second item was also a mystery which later emerged to be a special pillow for pregnant women. It was the first of several baby-related items and Connor, 23, said he was a little young to be thinking about parenthood himself, but that perhaps Amazon was “preparing him for the future”.

In terms of resale value, the box-fresh lawnmower tyres that came off the pallet next were at least a bit more promising, while a framed print of a pier at sunset was probably going to be a bit more tricky to sell on.

But to Connor’s delight the next item he unboxed was a bumper-sized toolbox… or at least he thought it was. The large black plastic item turned out to actually be a storage bin, but the plucky YouTube wasn’t going to be downhearted about it, as he said the bin would probably sell for “about 15 bucks”.

A set of air filters looked rather unexciting, but had a resale value of close to £150, which was one more step towards Connor recouping his initial stake. “This is the best box that we just opened so far, profit-wise,” he enthused.

A massive inflatable pool toy “looks like a death-trap,” Connor said, but he was still pretty sure he could sell it on. He was similarly upbeat about an oriental tea set that was only slightly damaged.

Perhaps his single most joyous moment was when he unboxed an axe-throwing set. As well as some child-safe plastic axes it also included some imitation “ninja throwing stars” for a martial-arts-inspired alternative to darts.

Next up was a set of dinner plates. He explained that while they might not be immediately useful, they could turn a nice profit on resale: “Even though it not be for you this stuff is great for flipping… so if you’re a flipper and you like to buy stuff and just flip it this is like perfect”.

By now, Connor was close to breaking even as he said: “We're already at 600 and something dollars right now we’re not even close to being done."

Even Connor’s can-do attitude faltered once or twice though. One mysterious foul-smelling yellow item didn’t even get a proper investigation: “Just no,” the YouTuber exclaimed.

But there was need to worry, because the next item was the motherlode. Some “BC racing” replacement car suspension springs. “This is a huge find,” he added: “This is a huge, huge find.

"I don't know too much about cars. But these things have got to be up there…” It turns out they retailed for $1,200 – just under £1,000. That single item made his entire gamble worthwhile.

From there on, whatever Connor unwrapped was going to be a bonus, and there were dozens of items including a safe, a tripod, a floating shelf, a broom, a pan, a bookcase, a shower organiser, plates, a hanging flower pot, a tent cover, a storage rack, a tyre rack, pool storage, a backdrop for photoshoots, a canopy, a desk cabinet, and a tent.

By the time he got to the end of his mammoth unboxing session he said the experience was “insane”. He valued all of the items collectively at around $4025, or £3,245.

Connor’s estimate of his total profit was in the region of $3,350 (£2,711) profit on the entire bundle, although he did admit that one or two of the items, such as the axe throwing set, were going to be staying with him.
