It feels like a lifetime ago that we used to wait eagerly to see Cheryl’s latest beauty looks on The X Factor. Despite not being treated to weekly updates on her styles, the singer has just returned to Instagram to chat to her fans – and she’s done it with a brand new hair colour.
Speaking for the first time on Instagram since her friend and former Girls Aloud bandmate Sarah Harding tragically passed away, Cheryl looks stunning with a new autumnal pumpkin spice hair shade and a thick curtain fringe.
Cheryl’s last Instagram post in August saw her rehearsing for a Hoopla performance, and her hair was clearly an ashy shade of brunette. It looks like the 38 year old has been getting in the Halloween spirit in the weeks since that performance, now opting for a warm shade of auburn.
The singer has long favoured a chunky side fringe, but her new style looks shorter than usual with the bangs now skimming just above her cheekbones. Her fresh makeup also accentuates her flawless features, with her lips and cheeks coloured a pretty shade of pink.
Spicy tones and pumpkin spice hair colours are trending this season, so it’s no wonder Cheryl has been getting involved. Perfect for brunettes with a block base, it just involves adding a warm gloss or toner over the top of that existing colour.
The result should be a flattering, dimensional look, perfectly paired with a pumpkin spice latte and a thick knit.
Healthy hair tips to make your autumn colour stay healthy
Haircare expert Nicole Petty at Milk + Blush shares her top tips and tricks for prepping your hair for the autumn season.
1. Start with your diet
“With Halloween and Christmas creeping up, it’s easy to over-indulge. But did you know that missing a well-balanced diet can significantly affect the quality of your hair and even prevent growth?” asks Nicole.
“To best maintain the lustre of your locks, add foods that are high in nutrients, such as oily fish and legumes. Autumnal favourites like pumpkin, mushrooms and butternut squash are full of nutrients including iron, vitamin E and vitamin C, which all help promote healthy, strong hair.”
2. Shampoo less often
“Dry shampoo is a girl's best friend all year round, but even more so in the A/W seasons! The harsh weather can easily dry out your hair, so you’ll want to avoid washing your hair so often and stripping your hair of its natural oils,” Nicole adds.
3. Swap your hair bands
“ Traditional hair ties, especially those with metal fastenings, can wreak havoc on hair – and particularly when strands are more vulnerable to breakage during the colder months.
“Scrunchies won’t pull your hair, plus, they come in all different colours, patterns and fabrics, making them the perfect hair accessory to match your autumn wardrobe,” Nicole says.
4. Reduce static and increase moisture
“Do you find your hair becoming more static as the weather changes? That’s because there’s less moisture in the air during the colder season, drying your hair out and causing hair to take flight.
“The best way to prevent static is to keep your hair moisturised, so give your hair a little extra TLC with a hydrating hair mask once or twice a week,” recommends Nicole.
“You should also look for hair products containing ingredients such as honey, mango or shea butter and coconut, almond or argan oil – all known to hydrate, moisturise and soften brittle and dry hair.”
