Denmark’s Crown Princess Mary appeared moved as she and her husband Prince Frederik today paid their respects at the Mahatma Gandhi memorial at Raj Ghat.

The royal couple laid down a wreath and scattered rose petals during their visit in New Delhi, India.

The pair closed their eyes in contemplation as they took in the marble platform, dedicated to the Indian revolutionary.

Mother-of-four Mary, 51, was effortlessly elegant in a white dress for the visit, donning a chic ensemble accentuated by flower motifs and a layered A-line skirt.

Long sleeves and a cinched waist highlighted a sophisticated silhouette.

She kept her accessories minimal, opting for sapphire drop earrings to bring out the cool tones of her look.

Mary swept her chestnut tresses into a relaxed bun, and sported a glamorous make-up look with a smokey eye.

Meanwhile Frederik, 54, wore a navy blue suit for the engagement, teamed with a simple button-up and red tie.

Often referred to as India’s ‘father of the nation’, Ghandi is famed for his activism in leading India to independence from the British, marked by non-violent civil disobedience.

The political and spiritual leader staged 17 hunger strikes during his long-running freedom campaign, the longest lasting 21 days.

But less than a year after he was finally able to celebrate independence from Britain in 1947, Gandhi was assassinated.

The European monarchs are on a five day visit to India on vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar’s invitation.

On Sunday, the Danish royals posed up a storm in front of the breathtaking Taj Mahal in Agra.

Mary looked typically chic in a bright satin skirt from Etro which she paired with a stylish white shirt. She accessorised with a chunky brown belt which cinched her ensemble at the waist.

Heir to the throne Frederik donned a smart beige blazer, cream trousers and a white shirt which he paired with casual navy trainers.

The visit’s main focus is green transition, with a special look into water and energy.

Mary and Frederik, alongside other delegates will take part in seminars tackling the topics.

The couple is set to visit the capital New Delhi, as well as southeastern Chennai and Agra – which hosts the infamous Taj Mahal.

It comes after Mary attended the prestigious EliteForsk Awards in Copenhagen earlier this month.

Elsewhere, the Danish Royal Family shared stunning portraits of Princesses Mary earlier this month to celebrate her birthday.

And she wasn’t the only birthday in the royal house, with her twins Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent also turning 12 in January.

The Danish Royal Family have previously shared single photos of the siblings together for their birthday – but the household decided to break from tradition this year.

Instead of holding a photoshoot for the occasion, the proud parents released their children’s school photos – taken by photographer Jens Rosenfeldt.
