Dave Chappelle has been performing live at the Apollo — in Paris.
The comedian has been in the City of Light, we hear, with the co-hosts of his hit podcast, “The Midnight Miracle.” Sources said Chappelle was performing a run of sold-out gigs at the Apollo Théâtre with Yasiin Bey (the rapper/actor formerly known as Mos Def) and Talib Kweli.
The trio were also in town to attend a Louis Vuitton show featuring Virgil Abloh’s last collection — along with stars including Naomi Campbell, Venus Williams and Tyler, the Creator, a source told Page Six.
The source said: “Dave and friends did shows at Paris’ Apollo Théâtre before Dave takes over a bigger venue, Le Trianon, this weekend.”
The controversial comic is playing Le Trianon Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The source added that, “It’s possible that the trio were recording new material for the next season of [their Luminary podcast] ‘The Midnight Miracle.’ ”
But it remains to be seen when and if the recordings will surface.
Chappelle’s French Apollo show also featured DJ Trauma spinning tunes, plus performances by comedians Jeff Ross and Michelle Wolf, we hear.
Bey and Kweli performed as famed rap duo Black Star, whose long-anticipated next album is rumored to be coming soon. French fans wondered whether they were hearing some new tracks from the forthcoming record for the first time.
After Chappelle’s French shows are done, he’s performing a series of gigs in April at the Hollywood Bowl — billed as, “Netflix Is a Joke Presents: Dave and Friends.” In 2016, he signed lucrative deal with Netflix, and has since released a string of stand-up specials for the streamer.
Chappelle recently revealed onstage while touring that he regretted not responding to a text from his close pal Bob Saget before the “Full House” alum tragically died.
“I didn’t see [Bob’s death] coming,” Chappelle reportedly said during a stand-up performance in West Hollywood, Calif. “I never texted him back ’cause I was just busy… Yeah it happens. I’m just saying this to remind you; these moments are precious.”
