Each Premier League club’s best Dream Team performer for the 2021/22 season

AS we continue to wrap up the 2021/22 season, let’s take a look at the best Dream Team performers from each of the 20 clubs.

To keep it simple, the selections are determined by total points.

Arsenal: Bukayo Saka – 160 points

Still just 20 years old, the Gunners’ No7 has quickly become an on-field leader among Mikel Arteta’s crop.

His 11 goals and seven assists in the Premier League weren’t quite enough to guide Arsenal back to the hallowed realm of the Champions League but it represents a fine individual campaign.

If Saka continues to improve he’ll be close to unplayable at his peak.

Aston Villa: Matty Cash – 111 points

Poland’s finest banked 42.3% of his total in just two Game Weeks as he took Brighton, Southampton and Leeds to the cleaners.

John McGinn (£3.4m) was the only other Villa Park resident who achieved 100+ points.

Philippe Coutinho (£3.2m) will have his eye on a century next term.

Brentford: Ivan Toney – 171 points

A no-contest here as the Bees’ top scorer was a full 79 points ahead of runner-up Bryan Mbeumo (£2.2m).

Toney was the eighth-best forward overall after registering 20 goal involvements in all competitions – an incredible effort for a newly-promoted asset without European fixtures to enhance his schedule.

Brighton: Leandro Trossard – 104 points

It’s a great reflection on Graham Potter and the squad’s togetherness that the Seagulls finished ninth with only one Dream Team centurion.

The Belgian midfielder passed three figures in Game Week 35 when Brighton thrashed a hapless Man United 4-0.

A return of eight goals meant 2021/22 was Trossard’s best Premier League campaign.

Burnley: Nick Pope – 90 points

The England international can hold his head high despite the Clarets’ relegation.

How he managed to finish seventh in his position while representing a team that spent the majority of the season in the relegation zone is something of a mystery but also testament to Pope’s shot-stopping heroics.

Chelsea: Reece James – 209 points

Four other Stamford Bridge residents finished between 190-199 points but only the Blues’ rampaging right-back achieved a double century.

James may have rivalled Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.9m) at the top of the defensive rankings had he not missed 15 games through injury.

He actually boasts the same points-per-game average (5.4) as a certain Man City full-back who we’ll mention shortly.

Crystal Palace: Wilfried Zaha – 144 points

The Eagles’ talisman finished very strongly with 95 points coming from the last 13 Game Weeks.

This was Zaha’s best ever season in front of goal having netted 15 times in all competitions.

Shout out to Conor Gallagher who was a genuine revelation during the first half of the campaign.

Everton: Richarlison – 110 points

Largely a season to forget for the Toffees and the fact their Brazilian No7 seems to be keen on a move away makes another statement entirely.

Richarlison helped Everton preserve their top flight status with some impressive form at the death that translated to 60 points from the last eight Game Weeks.

Leeds: Raphinha – 119 points

Similarly, the Whites owe their Premier League survival to their Brazil international.

It seems likely Raphinha has kicked his final ball in a Leeds shirt but the fans appreciated his efforts when everything else was going wrong at Elland Road.

He scored 11 league goals and frequently looked a class above his peers.

Leicester: James Maddison – 228 points

The Foxes’ No10 was the third-best midfielder overall having registered 30 goal involvements in all competitions.

A reminder that Maddison had just 12 points to his name after the first 18 games.

Liverpool: Mohamed Salah – 334 points

What is there to say about the only man to achieve a triple century of points?

Alexander-Arnold was the second-best player, not just among the Reds’ squad but among all assets, but he misses out here – it’s a cruel game.

Manchester City: Joao Cancelo – 275 points

Kevin De Bruyne may have ended the season as Dream Team’s outright best midfielder but his tally of 245 points was still 30 shy of Cancelo when all was said and done.

The Portugal international earned more 7+ ratings than any other player this season – a reflection of his contribution to City’s fourth league title in five years.

Manchester United: Cristiano Ronaldo – 225 points

To put this effort into perspective, Fred (£2.5m) was the Red Devils’ third-best performer with just 81 points.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner spearheaded a mostly dysfunctional team and scored 24 goals at an average of one every 128 minutes across the Premier League and Champions League.

Despite his team’s woes, it was a triumphant return to Dream Team for Ronaldo.

Newcastle: Allan Saint-Maximin – 91 points

The last days of Steve Bruce’s reign were so bleak that there were very few points to be had at all until Eddie Howe steadied the ship.

The Frenchman’s dribble-heavy style earned him some Star Man awards and plenty of 7+ ratings on top of his five goals and five assists.

Surely St James’ Park will boast three or four centurions at least next season?

Norwich: Teemu Pukki – 93 points

A noble effort given the Canaries were destined for relegation almost from the get-go.

The 32-year-old scored 11 league goals, just as he did in 2019/20 – at this stage it’s fair to say he’s a proven Premier League goalscorer.

It’ll be interesting to see if any mid-table clubs think he’s worth pursuing this summer.

Southampton: James Ward-Prowse – 144 points

Saints’ skipper is so much more than just incredible free-kicks but they certainly help.

Like a few other names on this list, Ward-Prowse enjoyed his best season in front of goal in 2021/22 – he bagged 11 in all competitions.

Armando Broja (£2.2m) was his closest rival but the Albanian was a good 52 points shy of his captain.

Tottenham: Harry Kane – 291 points

England’s captain lulled Dream Team bosses into a false sense of security with a slow start to the campaign but Antonio Conte soon whipped him into shape.

In tandem with the prolific Son Heung-min (£6.9m), Kane racked up 161 points in the last 17 Game Weeks to finish as the game’s second-best forward.

17 league goals is under par by the No10’s standards but some Europa Conference League fun meant he finished with 27 in all comps – you can’t knock that.

Watford: Emmanuel Dennis – 100 points

Like Pukki, the Hornets’ top scorer can hold his head high after scoring ten goals and providing six assists in the league.

Josh King (65) was the only other Watford asset to muster more than 50 points in what was undoubtedly a season to forget for the Vicarage Road faithful.

West Ham: Jarrod Bowen – 210 points

Another one-horse race here as 2021/22’s breakout star amassed a double century thanks to a tally of 31 goal involvements in all competitions.

Bowen was one of just three players to achieve double figures for goals and assists in the Premier League this term.

The 25-year-old will be a popular recruit when we get going again in August.

Wolves: Jose Sa – 113 points

Finally, the standout value-for-money option among goalkeepers.

Only the top four sides conceded fewer goals than Bruno Lage’s side and the Portuguese custodian was the biggest contributor to Wolves’ solidity.

Sa was one of only five players in his position to pass the 100-point mark – a superb effort.
