EastEnders' Peter Beale has made a triumphant return to Albert Square much to the delight of fans. The character has been played by seven different actors over the years with the familiar face of Thomas Law stepping back into his shoes.
The character of Peter Beale first arrived on the BBC soap in 1993 alongside his twin sister, Lucy Beale. He is the eldest son of the longest-serving character, Ian Beale and the notable Cindy Beale.
Since the 90s a medley of actors have played the role of Peter who has been caught up in a number of huge storylines including his twin's Who Killed Lucy saga in 2014. Now in a surprising turn of events, Thomas, 30 has reprised the role which is where his acting career first began…
Who is Thomas Law?
Thomas, 30 hails from Hertfordshire and grew up in Potters Bar with his parents, Trish and Robert Law and two older sisters. His family stretches across the globe with loved ones in Dorset and Australia.
Last year, Thomas took to Instagram to pay tribute to journalist, Deborah James who tragically passed away from bowel cancer in June 2022. He went on to share that his sister had previously been diagnosed with the same disease.
Wearing a Rebellious Hope T-shirt in the post he wrote the caption: "Four and a half years ago my sister was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer. At the time we knew nothing about it and it was a brutal time. What Deborah has done in recent years has bought such awareness to Bowel Cancer and highlighted it so that people out there are aware of the signs that they may have dismissed.
"Please check your stools, be aware of the symptoms it could save your life!
"Lots of Love to your amazing family Deborah. You truly are a hero to my sister and many others!"
Successful career
Thomas first played the role of teenage Peter Beale in EastEnders from 2006 to 2010 – the fifth actor to take on the part. After leaving the BBC soap he made his theatre stage debut as the titular role in Peter Pan in 2011.
The actor also played the role of Ste in the 2015 UK theatre tour of Beautiful Thing alongside Sam Jackson and Charlie Brooks. He also went on to appear in the likes of Casualty and Hollywood films including A Cinderella Story: If The Shoe Fits in 2016.
Not only this but he has previously shown off his musical talents on social media, sharing videos of himself singing and playing guitar, as well as streaming songs on Spotify. In April this year, Thomas posted a video to Instagram as he played the guitar and sang a version of Corinne Bailey Rae's hit, Put Your Records On.
While it looked as though he was focusing on music, eagle-eyed fans then spotted him making a return to TV last year in ITV's The Bay, playing the role of DC Eddie Martin. He also starred in the film Last Train to Christmas.
Thomas previously delighted fans on social media back in 2020 when he shared a topless snap showing off his rippling six-pack in a shock transformation. In the picture, it was obvious the actor had grown up a lot, as he posed with rippling muscles in a gym.
He captioned the snap: "#tbt to when I fully listened to everything that @billybwfit told me to do, lol".
The star's Instagram now boasts over 55K followers and he has kept fans updated on his return to Albert Square. Talking about reprising the role of Peter Beale, Thomas said: "Over the years, I had hoped for a return to the Square although I never thought it would happen so it's an absolute delight to be back in Walford as Peter Beale.
"It's been great to see familiar and new faces, and I cant wait to explore the character again in the wake of Cindy's return it's an exciting time to return!".
Chris Clenshaw, Executive Producer added: "I’m thrilled to welcome Thomas back to the role of Peter Beale. Although his time away from the Square has been short-lived, the Beale family dynamics have changed immensely since he last left Walford.
"Viewers will soon learn the details relating to how he came to learn that his mum, Cindy, was in fact alive, and how he and dad, Ian, reconciled their differences. We’re delighted to have him back permanently, but one thing is for certain, the Beale’s comeback will be nothing less than explosive for The Square."
