Having been onEmmerdale since 1997, the ITV soap just wouldn’t be the same without actor Dominic Brunt, aka on-screen vet Paddy Kirk.
And given that he’s spent more than two decades on our screens, it’s no surprise that Dominic has taken on some pretty dramatic storylines, including having multiple extramarital affairs, tragically losing his child and discovering who his biological father actually is.
Most recently, Paddy’s wife Chas Dingle has been having an affair with Al Chapman and the likelihood of Paddy finding out remains highafter both Belle and Aaron Dingle caught the pair while in the act.
While 52 year old Dominic’s life off-screen is a lot less dramatic, the star’s personal life isn’t short of glamour as the soap star is married to a fellow Emmerdale icon.
Having first met his now-wife Joanne Mitchell while at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, the pair tied the knot in 2003, meaning that they have since been married for nearly 20 years.
Fans of Emmerdale will recognise Joanne from her four roles on the soap, including as DS Karen Barnborough, Midwife Yeo, Susan Davies and most recently Liv’s mum Sandra Flaherty.
During an interview withInside Soap, Joanne, 50, opened up about working alongside her beau, calling the experience “great”.
She said: “It’s fun to be on the same show but I’ve not actually worked with him yet. We haven’t had any scenes together as our characters live separate lives in the village.”
Elsewhere, Joanne has appeared in shows such as Holby City, Waterloo Road and Doctors.
Together, the pair have two sons together and have opened up about how they feared losing their son Danny after he was diagnosed with a heart condition when he was just eight months old.
Speaking tothe Mirror, doting dad Dominic said: “At the time it was horrific. You’re in the eye of the storm, it was horrible. You think you are going to lose your son.
“We had only just got to know him – he was eight months old, and we thought that was it.”
Though soap fans may be familiar with Dominic’s role as Paddy, with the star recently calling in sick for the first time in 25 years, the TV personality recently revealed that he was sent to embark on a career change following his time on the Dales.
Having opened up about his passion for horror and thriller films, earlier this year Dominic announced that he was directing a new horror film called Wolf Manor, which came out on 21 September.
Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “A bit of news. We wrapped on our new feature film ‘Wolf Manor’ over the weekend.
“It’s a werewolf film and you’re going to love it. If you follow us @wolfmanorfilm we’ll follow you back straight away. Thank you.”
Despite his directing role, Dominic also secured a cameo appearance in the feature film, appearing as a cannibal named Podge.
Prior to his most recent release, Dominic has directed and produced various other horror films including Bait, Attack of the Adult Babies and Before Dawn.
Having moved to Yorkshire to film Emmerdale, Dominic has made the most of the country’s hillside walks and Peak District views and has spoken about how he unwinds from long days on set by going on countryside walks.
“We walk the dogs a lot,” he toldThe Yorkshire Post. “They say in London you’re never more than 6ft away from a rat but in Yorkshire, you’re never more than 20 minutes away from the most beautiful places on this earth.”
