Entire ISLAND in Maine goes on sale for $400,000 – with no bathroom

Entire ISLAND in Maine goes on sale for $400,000 – complete with a lighthouse and a tiny one-room home with NO bathroom or running water (but plenty of privacy!)

  • The 7,405-square-foot island is located in the middle of Anasagunticook Lake
  • The cottage has one room that serves as the kitchen, bedroom, and dining area
  • It has no plumbing, which means you’ll have to use a compost toilet

An entire island in Maine has gone on sale for $400,000, but it comes with a catch: there’s not a single bathroom on the entire thing.

That’s right, you can now become the owner of a 7,405-square-foot plot of land smack dab in the middle of Anasagunticook Lake, but you’ll have to use a Porta-Potti or a compost toilet if you want to go to the restroom.

The man-made private island, which was built in the 1930s, comes with a cozy cottage, ’18-foot lighthouse with seating for four at the top, and boat dock – but it’s unfortunately lacking in plumbing.

The residence measures just 20 by 24 feet and contains only one large room, which acts as the kitchen, dining room, living room, and bedroom.

The one-room home can sleep up to five people as it contains a double bed and a triple bunk bed – if you don’t mind the close quarters, that is.

Across from the sleeping area is the kitchen, which comes fully equipped with a gas cooker, microwave, and refrigerator.

The cabinets are all made from wood, adding a rustic feel to the charming home, while stones line the walls.

Next to the kitchen, there is a bright red dining table, which seats up to six people – perfect for hosting a lakeside party.

The island – located in Canton – boasts stunning, 360 views of the surrounding water, which is perfect for swimming, boating, or fishing.

It has also been approved for parking a registered RV or Camper for up to three months at a time.

‘The [nearby] shore lot has a fine, sandy beach and swimming area,’ reads the listing. ‘Lake water quality is some of the best to be found in Maine.’

The property is listed with Meservier & Associates at $400,000.

Despite the lack of running water, many people on the web were enthralled by the idea of living on the remote island.

‘As an introvert I feel this in my bones,’ one person wrote. Another agreed, ‘New favorite house. No door-knockers ever again.’

‘No one will be stopping by unannounced… [Perfect],’ someone else said.

A fourth comment read, ‘Absolutely beautiful. A great place to get away from it all.’

‘My thoughts and prayers to the Amazon delivery person that has this route,’ joked a different user.

However, some people were turned off by the lack of facilities. One person commented, ‘Off-grid electric, compost toilet, no running water? No thanks.’

‘When you poop, does it go into the lake?’ asked someone else.

‘It’s already hard enough to get to the grocery store,’ announced another user.

‘I thought this was an adorable bedroom until I realized it was also the living room,’ commented a different person.

‘No running water = no thank you,’ said another.
