Grammys’ most utterly outrageous red carpet looks – from Crocs to naked dresses

The 2022 Grammys red carpet was not short of a whole host of incredible outfit, from Lady Gaga’s old Hollywood glam-inspired ensemble to Chrissy Teigen’s incredible and dramatic pink ballgown. However, amongst all of the superb looks, there were also some that veered towards more of the outrageous and unexpected.

Whether that’s Justin Bieber trying to make crocs cool by wearing a custom pair on the red carpet or Paris Hilton leading the way for the nearly naked dress trend, the event wasn’t short of show-stopping fashion.

Here are the best of the bizarre yet brilliant ensembles worn on the biggest night in music…

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber is known for pulling off incredible looks and we’re used to seeing him opt for dress-down options more than formal.

However for the Grammys, the 28 year old decided to opt for a custom Balenciaga suit which featured an oversized blazer styled with a pair of platform crocs. Yes, you read that right. Crocs on the red carpet.

Fans erupted at the sight of the outfit as one quipped: "Great! now I can run around with my dad’s suit, my brother’s crocs sandal, my winter beanie and have an excuse to everyone that I just want to be like Justin Bieber."

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton sparkled her way down the red carpet in a dazzling diamanté and silver sequin sheer gown by designer Atelier Zuhra.

The blonde swooped her hair up into a high ponytail and floated her way in front of the cameras with the most amazing matching diamanté cape. Where can we get one, please?

Tayla Parx

American singer, songwriter Tayla Parx followed the traditional red carpet brief of "go big or go home" very closely as she dressed as Super Mario character Yoshi.

Taking to Twitter, the star posted a picture of herself with the caption: "If Bowser was a bad b**ch."

The ensemble proved divisive among fans on Twitter, as one user said: "this is kinda everything," whilst another followed with "This aint the met gala."

We might not be entirely sold but we’re applauding Tayla for pulling off this unusual look.

Doja Cat

Another star that took on the nude trend is none other that singer/rapper Doja Cat, who wowed in a mint green Versace gown.

The sheer fabric displayed the brilliant corset underneath and was embellished with hundreds of individual diamantés.

If this wasn’t special enough, the 26 year old accessorised the outfit with a matching bedazzled JBL bag speaker – genius.

Yola

English musician, singer and songwriter Yola made sure to steal the show as she wore a gigantic purple ballgown by Sho Konishi.

Not only did it come with a skirt that took over the carpet but it also featured a fur hem and matching sleeves that came with their own claws.

Jasmine Sanders

German-American model and fashion influencer Jasmine Sanders embraced her curves in a flawless Jean-Louis Sabaji gown.

Hundreds of red and black butterflies were embroidered on the dress’s see-through fabric.

Spice

Jamaican musician Spice arrived in a huge red tulle ruffle cape that matched red carpet itself.

As she posed for photos, she slowly dropped the heavy overcoat to reveal a beautifully beaded sheer gown which had her exuding glamour.

Laverne Cox

Actor and presenter Laverne Cox also took on the naked trend as she ticked all of the style boxes in a brilliant John Galliano lace gown.

The outfit might be simple and understated, but paired with Laverne’s purple hair and matching rich smokey-eye and lip, this ensemble comes packed with gothic drama.

Michelle Zauner

Korean-American musician Michelle Zauner made sure to dress to impress in a vibrant yellow Valentino Couture mini dress.

The outfit saw the star’s body covered in ruffles galore and was styled with a silver pair of Stuart Weitzman shoes.

Whilst some made a connection to her album cover where she is surrounded by yellow tomatoes, others compared her look to…. a packet of crisps. Michelle, we think you look stunning!

SZA

We are head over heels for SZA’s fabulous floral Jean Paul Gaultier dress.

The perfect fit and pleated tulle made the gown an instant winner, and the floral arrangement that flowed down the front added a touch of sophistication.

Cheri Moon

Singer and actress Cheri Moon decided to go for a different silhouette as she made sure all of her drama was up top.

The star styled her simple gold metallic mini dress with a hefty structured waistcoat that left her stealing everyone’s attention.

Saweetie

28 year old rapper Saweetie showed how to take on the nearly nude trend while bringing Hollywood glam in this custom Oscar de la Renta gown.

The dress boasted an asymmetric puff skirt with a cheeky touch as the left side of her bodice was delicately covered in hundreds of silver gemstones — amazing.

Lenny Kravitz

Even music legend Lenny Kravitz chose to follow the see-through trend as he sported a silver mesh vest with leather trousers.

If this wasn’t enough, the icon paired the trousers with matching knee-high boots and multiple stacked silver necklaces to disguise the plunging neckline — incredible.

Dillon Francis

When you’ve got food shopping at 12pm followed by the Grammy’s red carpet at 1pm.

Producer Dillon Francis threw the rulebook out of the window as he sported a blue t-shirt, black jeans and black and white checkerboard trainers. And to complete the look? A shopping bag, of course.

We applaud the originality.

Bomba Estéreo

Colombian brand Bomba Estéreo worked with a Latin American artist to visually represent what their album explores.

Using traditional masks the artist intricately designed, the group created looks which link to nature and the elements.
