Interior design expert expert Benji Lewis told FEMAIL that the bathroom has ‘never been hotter’.

‘Often regarded as the room warranting minimum attention – both in terms of design input and financial outlay – if ever there was a space that’s enjoying a serious rethink, it’s the bathroom.

‘When it comes to the configuration of the washroom, it’s no longer a question of bath there, loo there and wash hand basin there – job done – bathroom design has never been hotter.

‘Possibly as an outcome of lockdown whereby bathing has become an antidote of sorts to the conditions Covid presented us with, time spent in the smallest room is now viewed as a moment to reflect on life – a good place to unwind, whilst the process of washing acts not only on a practical level but feeds our desire for all things holistic also,’ he added.

Meanwhile, trends and pop culture expert Nick Ede told FEMAIL the trend will soon be seen across Britain.

‘The trend for wallpapered bathrooms is becoming popular in many homes up and down the country,’ he said.

‘The style can be seen in popular posh members clubs like Annabel’s, where the toilets are famed for their opulence and also hotels like The Dorchester and Rosewood too.

‘This trend also has an air of Hollywood too – many of the most famous homes have expansive bathrooms with decorative wallpaper and the hues of green and pink are particularity reminiscent of the iconic Beverly Hills Hotel palm wallpaper and pink paintwork.

‘Gone are the days of wet rooms with bland tiling and in are over the top light fixtures and patterns.

‘Shows like the great interior design challenge are making people more and more excited about their homes and with the new changing rooms coming back to channel four the trend for posh loos is set to carry on for many years to come’

Fancy a bathroom revamp in lockdown? Interior design expert Benji Lewis offers his top tips

Interior design expert expert Benji Lewis told FEMAIL that the bathroom has ‘never been hotter’.

‘Often regarded as the room warranting minimum attention – both in terms of design input and financial outlay – if ever there was a space that’s enjoying a serious rethink, it’s the bathroom,’ he said.

‘When it comes to the configuration of the washroom, it’s no longer a question of bath there, loo there and wash hand basin there – job done – bathroom design has never been hotter.

‘Possibly as an outcome of lockdown whereby bathing has become an antidote of sorts to the conditions Covid presented us with, time spent in the smallest room is now viewed as a moment to reflect on life – a good place to unwind, whilst the process of washing acts not only on a practical level but feeds our desire for all things holistic also.

‘It’s worth taking the time to establish a good layout for your sanitaryware when it comes to planning your space, and I advise viewing this as you would any other room.

‘An area for disrobing, somewhere sensible to hang or drape the dressing gown – try and factor this in close to the shower or bath so you’re not traipsing across the room dripping wet; I adore a chair in a bathroom, so smart, even better if you can add a side table and put a lamp on it and add your scented candle.

‘On the subject of which consider two or even three lighting circuits in your bathroom; a dimmable circuit for overhead lighting (good for the cleaning), one for wall lights either side of the mirror over the basin, and finally – space allowing, a circuit for the table lamp previously mentioned.

‘Loos should be discreetly tucked away, and should you be sharing the bathroom with a partner then try and factor in twin basins.

‘Allow for a heated towel rail but don’t put this on the same circuit as the central heating, remember in summer you might wish for a warm towel but not a fully centrally heated room.

‘Underfloor heating is a lovely thing to include in your bathroom, winter is a brutal season and the feel of a warmed floor underfoot can help soften the blow of an early start in the dark.

‘Coloured suites and heavily patterned wallpaper in bathrooms are very of the moment, with popular prints being panoramics – scenes of nature providing opportunity for a moment of visual escapism.

‘As for hardware we’ve long been stuck on the idea that stainless steel is the only finish, and in the last few years it’s been a delight to see the return of polished brass and components made of bronze.

‘Mirrors clearly form an integral part of the bathing process, always excellent for bringing borrowed light and creating the illusion of increased space, I wouldn’t scrimp on how I use these.

‘Don’t contain the use of mirror to a single circle hanging above the basin, consider full height panels, they’re fantastic for adding a glamorous feel to things and if you’re anxious about what you might see when you look in it, embrace your inner ‘70’s and use a smoked glass’.
