I think my son is on the spectrum – he's anxious and impulsive

DEAR DEIDRE:IT’S clear my son has some kind of behavioural problem and may be on the autistic spectrum.

But since seeing the GP, I’ve been passed from pillar to post and back, and my other kids are being badly affected.

I’m 44 and have three sons aged eight, six and four.

The six-year-old has always been anxious and had sleep issues.

He hates loud noises and smells, is very impulsive and does dangerous things, like trying to climb out of the first-floor window or jumping off the pavement when there’s traffic about.

His teachers say they haven’t noticed anything is wrong, which makes me feel I’m going insane. They treat me like a difficult mum.

I think my son masks his behaviour at school, and then has meltdowns when he comes home.

I’m desperate to get him some help. What can I do?
