It’s official, summer is over for another year.
Gone are the long days of sunlight and say hello to 4pm darkness, autumn is truly here.
As we all recover from a booze fuelled wedding and festival season while getting used to the weather change, our bodies can feel worse for wear – and it can even affect us mentally.

As someone with an immune system that is treated like a punching bag, going into the colder months makes me want to hibernate in fear of a constant runny nose or sore throat.
So when I was invited to Get A Drip, I knew I had to give it a go to give my body the boost it needed.
The pun named company wanting to make "optimum nutrition accessible to everyone" has locations scattered across London, Dublin and even in Rotterdam.
For those who need a boost in the confines of their own home, the company also offers mobile clinics.
With my hopes of having the energy of a Duracell bunny instead of a sickly Victorian child, I made my way to the Canary Wharf branch of the clinics.
Welcomed with a smile and explanation about the treatment I was going to receive, I felt apprehensive that a dose of vitamins through my bloodstream was going to make me feel any better.
But, at this point, I’ll give anything a try.
Offered the 'The Immunity Drip', 'Triple B12' along with 'Vitamin D Testing', I made my way into the treatment area.
A row of chairs similar to those in a salon but, plot twist with no pedicure in sight, instead I had a 45 minute appointment with an IV drip.
Most people wouldn’t see being hooked to a bag of liquid form vitamins and getting a blood test as a form of self-care. But as winter can be tough in the UK, with half the population not getting enough vitamin D, getting this drip seemed like a good shout.
As I sat comfy in the chair, the nurse took my blood to see whether my vitamin D levels were fine and dandy.
Spoiler alert, my levels were not great however I had to wait until the end of my treatment that lasted around 45 minutes.
With the vitamin concoction at the ready, a needle was inserted into my vein and my health fanatic version of a pick 'n' mix started to feed into my bloodstream.
The nurse told me that some people report feeling cold throughout the administering of the IV drip.
Being a cold human in general, I prepared myself for a drip caused nip and was even offered a blanket. However, declined this offer as I didn’t really feel anything – not even the drip.
I had to even double check with the nurse that the energy boosting pick 'n' mix was doing its thing as it was pain-free and caused no discomfort.
With the vitamin goodie bag of dreams painlessly going into my arm, I relaxed to the point I nearly dozed off.
In the moments that I wasn’t contemplating sleeping, the nurse spoke to me about the benefits of getting a vitamin drip.
Minimal sunlight and bouts of rainy downfalls are soon to commence, so maintaining your vitamin intake is important to health – both physically and mentally.
Keeping on top of your Vitamin D levels is important, these include:
Normal energy-yielding metabolism
Normal functioning of the nervous system
Normal homocysteine metabolism
Normal psychological function
Normal red blood cell formation
Normal function of the immune system
Reduction of tiredness and fatigue
Process of cell division
Before I knew it, my 45 minutes of ‘getting a drip’ were up and I was full of vitamins.
Quite literally:
Vitamin B1 (250mg)
Vitamin B2 (4mg)
Vitamin B3 (150mg)
Vitamin B6 (50mg)
Vitamin C (2,000mg)
Vitamin B12 Methylcobalamin(2mg), B12 Hydroxycobalamin(1mg )and B12 Adenosylcobalamin (2mg)
Sodium Chloride (242mmol)
Glutcose (1,000mg)
Potassium (5mmol)
Calcium (2mmol)
Bicarbonate (29mmol)
Although since my drip I have suffered a bout of tonsillitis (damn you immune system), other than that I seem to be fighting fit for the last two months.
I can’t be certain that Get a Drip made me into a battery powered bunny like I dreamed of, but realistically my immune system seems to be less of a punching bag than before.
Get a Drip states: “Research shows that Vitamin D is important for general health and wellness.
“Vitamin D is produced in the skin via exposure to the sun, but in the UK more than 50% of the population don’t make enough Vitamin D.
“And in the winter the Government advises that we should all supplement with Vitamin D because most of us are deficient, when sunlight levels are so weak that we cannot produce Vitamin D even when outside.
“Even in the summer, Vitamin D deficiency is common due to the use of sunscreen and spending a lot of time indoors.
Prices start from around £30 all the way to £850 for various different packages offered at Get A Drip.
