Inside Megan McKenna’s life from TOWIE cast member to playing at Glastonbury

Megan McKennatook to Instagram on Friday to share the exciting news that she isperforming at this year’s Glastonbury festival.

A lot has changed for the formerTOWIEstar, 29, since she first appeared on TVs in 2009 on Britain's Got Talent.

The Essex-born star was always in love with singing and reached the semi finals of the show over a decade ago with girlband Harmony.

The following year Megan first appeared in TOWIE but decided to focus on her singing and left to audition for The X Factor as part of girlgroup LOLA. She auditioned for the show twice – and both times made it to bootcamp.


She became a part of the reality TV scene in 2015 when she appeared in in Ex on the Beach and went on to gain more recognition when she appeared in Celebrity Big Brother the following year in 2016.

Fast forward to 2016 and Megan was a regular on The Only Way is Essex and often showed off her romance with fellow cast member Pete Wicks.

The pair split in 2017 and the beauty has reportedly beendating businessman beau Josh Rileyrecently.

Megan left TOWIE in 2017 and started the show There’s Something About Megan which followed the musician through Nashville as she tried to make it big in the music industry.

In the third of the three episodes, she released her debut EP which included the single ‘High Heeled Shoes’, which topped the UK iTunes chart. This then led to a UK tour.

In 2018, she supported Michael Bublé at the British Summer Time show at Hyde Park and shortly after she released her autobiography “Mouthy”.

Megan’s big break came when she returned to The X Factor in 2019 but this time on the celebrity version.

She was mentored by Louis Walsh and went on to win the show and a record deal withSimon Cowell’s Syco label. During the Covid pandemic, Meganreleased a powerful song called FightCovid19.

Megan has been previously outspoken on ditching her lip fillers and big hair and toldMailOnlinethat she feels “liberated” after dissolving her lip fillers, getting rid of her big Essex hair and the intense pressures of reality TV.

She said: “I’ve done all the partying. I want more! I feel liberated, 100 per cent. I finally feel comfortable in myself. I'm so over that life! It's boring.

“This girl that everyone is seeing has always been me. I've just never had the chance to break free and show that side of me because I've been on TV shows that are a lot of pressure and drama.”

Megan is now totally focussed on her career and previously said: “I have grown up on TV. I have grown up a lot over the years and now I can laugh about the silly mistakes I made on TV.

“I feel because I haven't been taken seriously for a long time now because of the other reality shows I've done – all I can think is this is my chance now for somebody to see me and for me to have that break.

“I really, really need that break. It would mean everything to me.”

As she gears up to play Glastonbury this June and has a successful singing career, her big break may have already happened.
