The “Friends” reunion was one of the biggest events of 2021, and fans are still buzzing about all of the amazing moments. During the two-hour unscripted event, cast members Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, and Matthew Perry came together for the first time in years to reminisce about their time on the show, as well as the importance of the pop culture phenomenon (via E! News). Fans got to see the magic that the cast members still have together when they met each other on rebuilt sets of Monica and Rachel’s apartment, Chandler and Joey’s apartment, and Central Perk. In addition to their emotional and candid conversations, viewers also watched the gang do table reads from classic episodes of the show, and had a bit of fun with a reimagined trivial game that pitted the guys and the girls against each other.
During the interview portion of the reunion, fans learned that Aniston and Schwimmer originally had huge crushes on each other. They also found out what Rachel, Ross, Joey, Phoebe, Chandler, and Monica would be doing today. Aniston and Schwimmer agreed that their characters would be married and raising children, while Cox said Monica would be running bake sales at her kids’ school. Kudrow claimed that Phoebe and Mike would be married, and LeBlanc imagined that Joey would have opened his own sandwich shop. Of course, there were also a ton of guest stars, and one even joined Kudrow for a rendition of Phoebe’s hit song, “Smelly Cat.”
Lisa Kudrow said she panicked during her performance with Lady Gaga
During the “Friends” reunion, fans got to enjoy a number of celebrity guest appearances from stars such as Justin Bieber, Cindy Crawford, Tom Selleck, David Beckham, and more. However, perhaps the biggest celebrity cameo came when Lisa Kudrow sat down at the Central Perk set to play Phoebe’s hit song “Smelly Cat” alongside singer Lady Gaga.
“That was great. I was really nervous when I first heard that,” Kudrow told Entertainment Tonight of her duet with Gaga. “Then I prepared. I realized I had to learn ‘Smelly Cat’ again. I tuned my guitar and realized I don’t know the chords. But I Googled it! All the chords were there. Thank you, world, for posting the chords. So I learned it,” she confessed. Although Kudrow prepared for her performance of the hilarious tune, she admitted that she got really nervous. “My throat closed. I was so panicked. I couldn’t get anything out. I didn’t know what was going to happen,” she recalled. “But it worked out.”
Lisa Kudrow and Lady Gaga shared a heartwarming moment during the reunion
After Lisa Kudrow and Lady Gaga’s memorable rendition of “Smelly Cat,” the duo shared a very sweet moment when the singer thanked Kudrow for portraying such an iconic, yet unique, character during “Friends'” 10-year run. “Thank you so much for being the person for all of us on ‘Friends’ that — I don’t know if this is the right way to say it — but the different one, or the one that was really herself,” Gaga told Kudrow during the reunion special.
“That really almost made me cry. I think I said, ‘I think I’m gonna cry,’ but I said it so softly. That blew me away,” Kudrow told Entertainment Tonight. “Also, coming from her, because my son was in grade school, all the kids were listening to Lady Gaga and her whole message was everyone be yourself, be you. That was amazing.” Fans can see Kudrow and Gaga’s amazing duet, as well as the other epic moments by streaming the “Friends” reunion on HBO Max.
