Love Island kicks off crochet bikini trend – but would you put your trust in the fabric?

Every year there’s a brand new bikini trend to come out of Love Island, as the girls don their best fashion statement-making swimwear for life in the villa.

We’ve had everything from the polarisingupside down bikini topsto daring cut out swimsuits, and this season, it seems the girls are braving wearing knitwear by the pool – but we’re not talking a cosy jumper or pair of socks; instead that girls have been spotted wearing crochet knit bikinis as they soak up the sun.

The crochet bikini trend has officially been brought to our screens, as contestants including Molly Marsh and Ruchee Gurung have been spotted in the knitted swimwear, with Molly opting for a blue crochet bikini top and bottoms, whilst Ruchee kept it classic in a white crochet top.

Although the crochet bikini trend looks stunning, we still can’t decide whether we’re brave enough to try it, as you’ll have to put a lot of trust in the knitted fabric.

Before you even think about braving a crochet bikini on your next holiday, we feel like we should point out that although you can technically wear them in the pool, we probably wouldn’t advise it. The knitted fabric will soak up all the water and immediately become heavy, which leaves you in danger of losing your bikini mid swim.

However, when it comes to simply lounging by the pool or soaking up the sun, we can’t deny that a crochet bikini looks super chic and stylish. Whether you want to wear it as a two piece for sunbathing, or want to style the top with your favourite denim shorts, there are plenty of ways to wear this season’s new favourite swimwear style.

Here’s where you can shop some of our favourite crochet bikinis.
