Ever wanted to take your dog with you to the cinema? Well, now anyone within commutable distance to Manchester can.

The Ducie Street Warehouse complex in Central Manchester has a small cinema that is now offering special dog-friendly screenings, so people can bring their four-legged friends along for the fun.

The 36-seat theatre is hosting these screenings every Monday, showing dog-themed films like Lassie, Hotel for Dogs and Scooby-Doo.

Staff raise the light levels and lower the sound to keep the dogs comfortable.

The venue is already dog-friendly, with the idea for these special screenings coming from guests.

Events Manager, Nathan Wrigglesworth, 27, said: ‘People love to treat their dogs as a member of their family now and taking them to a very “human” experience.

‘Customers are always so happy that they can bring their dog in the venue, so we wanted to make an event just for dogs and their owners.

‘People don’t just want to take dogs on walks anymore – they want to involve them in their whole life.

‘I’ve seen people take their dogs out for drinks and dinner – that’s the way the world is going.’

Staff also offer dog-friendly snacks in the form of locally-sourced treats and ‘pawpcorn’.

Nathan, from Manchester, said: ‘Only humans get seats – depending on how big they are, some dogs will sit on their laps or on the floor.

‘Most of them are off their leash, running around saying hello to each other.

‘Whether the dogs are actually watching the film – that is still up for a debate.

‘It’s absolute chaos, but it’s controlled chaos and that’s what people love about it.’

Regardless of how much the dogs actually watch the movies, the team respectfully pick out the films they think the pups will enjoy most.

But they take special care to keep things upbeat and PG.

‘Dogs just love to see something like themselves on the screen, but we can’t show anything where an animal dies,’ Nathan explained.

‘That means I am Legend and Marley and Me are off the cards.

‘When we do eventually run out of movies with dogs in, we might have to start looking at other animal-themed films.’

It seems that staff are on to a winner with this idea, as tickets to the ‘mini-cini’ have sold out week on week.

Nathan said: ‘Every week there’s at least 36 dogs in our venue and the public are going mad for it.

‘It’s doing so well, and we’re going to keep going for as long as we can.’
