My lazy husband refuses to help at home and just plays on his games console

DEAR DEIDRE: MY husband refuses to lift a finger at home.

He works hard but as soon as he walks in the door, he has the attitude that I should do everything else.

I’m 31 and he’s 30. We have two children, aged five and two. The five-year-old has learning difficulties and we are awaiting a diagnosis.

I’m constantly taking him to the hospital for various assessments.

He doesn’t sleep well and I’m often up three times a night with him.

I don’t work and whenever I ask my husband for help with bathtime or around the house, he says he’ll help out when I’m bringing in some money.

He often works six or seven days a week but when he is done, he sits on the sofa on his PlayStation.

I can’t remember the last time I relaxed on the sofa for an evening.

I’m exhausted, resentful and feel unloved.

DEIDRE SAYS: You both sound stressed. You must each be worried about your child and your husband is working hard to pay the bills, while you strive non-stop to keep everything else going.

Talk to him when the kids are quiet to explain you appreciate everything he is doing.

But also explain how upset and tired you feel.

Without accusing him, ask if he could start doing just one bedtime a week.

This would also be really beneficial for your children and give you a little breather one night a week.
