An iconic Pizza Hut item is returning to its restaurants after a long hiatus.

After an outpouring on social media calling for the return of the table condiments, bosses at Pizza Hut are bringing back the classic Chilli and Hard Cheese Shakers.

The shakers were present in restaurants from 1973 when the first Pizza Hut opened in Islington.

Now, as the timeless brand celebrate its 50th anniversary of opening in the UK, the shakers are coming back.

Kathryn Austin, Chief People and Marketing Officer at Pizza Hut Restaurants, said: "We’re the home of the Pan, inventors of Stuffed Crust and Cheesy Bites, the king of the Buffet and Ice Cream Factory originals, but, the one item that we are constantly asked about in our UK dine-in restaurants is the return of the Chilli and Hard Cheese Shakers.

"The number of tweets, Facebook messages and DM’s we receive asking for their second coming is most likely now in the thousands.

"So, as a 50th anniversary gift, we can confirm the news that pizza lovers have been waiting years for, the shakers will once again be shaking their stuff in restaurants around the UK."

The return of the shakers will come as welcome news to the social media users who have been messaging Pizza Hut begging for them to make a comeback.

One said: "Always mourn the loss of chilli flakes and Parmesan shakers."

Another added: "Oh I miss those Parmesan shakers – where did the cheese trust go?"

The return of the much-loved condiments isn’t the only thing Pizza Hut fans have to look forward to this July.

To celebrate the golden anniversary, the pizza innovators are treating UK lovers to a host of deals in both their Restaurants and Delivery Huts.

Since launching in Islington in 1973, Pizza Hut now has more than 700 restaurants and delivery outlets in the UK bringing Brits the upper crust in pizza.

To celebrate the golden anniversary, the inventors of the Stuffed Crust are making their classic Cheesy Bites crust available across Britain.

No birthday is complete without a party and on July 18, Pizza Hut is hosting a celebration event in the original home of Pizza Hut in the UK, Islington, London.

The Islington Hut, on Upper Street, will be selling pizzas for just £1 from 2p to 4pm.
