Resident’s ‘entitled’ response to neighbour’s text over renovations sparks fury

An infuriated resident has called out his neighbor’s “self-entitled” behavior after his renovations caused blockages on their one-way lane, but he refused to do anything about it. The incident has stirred outrage online after a screenshot of a text between the next-door residents was shared on Reddit’s “Mildly Infuriated” forum.

Offering some context to the ordeal, the poster explained that his neighbor’s renovations have begun two weeks prior to their heated exchange. Besides the inconvenience of having “banging” and “clattering” kick off at 7 am every morning, the workmen on the project would park their vans on the community’s one-lane road, causing blockages.

This problematically led to a series of incidents where the poster could not access their home, causing them to feel duly frustrated.

“I bought my son home from school today to be greeted by one guy in an Audi and a white van blocking the lane, and not bothering to move,” the poster explained. “As I said, this has been going on for a couple of weeks and I’d not said anything up to this point, because he’s doing his house up – it makes a noise and mess and I get that.”

The resident tried to be understanding of his neighbor’s situation, so shot him a harmless text asking how long the renovations would last. A screenshot shows that the resident initiated the conversation with the question: “How long are the renovations going on for?” to which their next-door neighbor responded: “Why what’s your problem.”

The poster explained: “So I text him and he’s on the defensive straight away. I purposefully don’t engage in his aggression and try to get my point across. I know full well he’ll say nothing to any workmen from now until they’re finished because no one but him matters on the lane.”

Despite the poster’s efforts to keep the exchange civil, their disgruntled neighbor continued to fire short and snappy replies, stressing that the renovation project would take “as long as it takes”.

Redditors visiting the forum were quick to interject their thoughts, with some insinuating that the poster should contact the fire department.

One Redditor sarcastically joked: “When you need to explain to someone that you need to access your own house……”

Another advised: “Stop being nice. They obviously don’t give a shi** about you or anyone else. Call the police if need be.”

“As a former construction worker, just politely talk to the workers. They chill nine times outta 10,” quipped a third.

Construction disputes are a common trigger for feuds between neighbours and make a popular theme in the ‘Mildly Infuriated’ forum on Reddit.

Though most arguments involving parking antics can be resolved through polite conversation, disagreements often end up escalating to the police.
