The Great British Sewing Bee viewers were left stunned last night after a contestant revealed her age of the show.
The seventh episode of the popular BBC series, which is presented by comedian Sara Pascoe, aired last night as the amateur sewers were tasked with 90s week.
However Mia, a student from Surrey, surprised many of those watching when she admitted she wasn’t born in the 90s – because she is just 20-years-old.
She said: ‘I wasn’t alive in the 90s. I’m glad there was a resurgence recently because otherwise I’d definitely be in trouble.’
Viewers were surprised, with one commenting: ‘I can’t commute this. Even though my own adult(ish) son was born in 2001, I can’t fathom how adults weren’t born in the 90s.’

One wrote: ‘I have turned to dust. Someone be a dear and hoover me up.’
Others confessed they were enjoying the 90s themed show, with one commenting: ‘Loving the soundtrack to 90s week Sewing Bee.’
Another added: ‘Sewing Bee is 90s week and I feel old now. Tunes though!’
A fourth wrote: ‘Loving 90s week on sewing bee tonight. Deffos my favourite decade. I was more grunge than Spice Girls.’
Another commented: ‘Loving 90s week on Sewing Bee, just constant singing.’
First up, in the Pattern Challenge, the sewers are asked to make the 90s’ most popular trousers – cargo pants.
Loved by hip-hop musicians and British girl bands alike, these trousers involve grappling with unfamiliar bellows pockets and a fly zip.
The judges told her that her zip was ‘too close to the edge’ while she ‘hadn’t got a button hole’ and ‘didn’t do the hem.’
The student surprised many of those watching when she admitted she wasn’t born in the 90s – while others admitting they were enjoying the themed show
They said the trousers were ‘unwearable’ as they were.
For the Transformation Challenge, the sewers take household textiles and rustle up a 90s celebrity-themed fancy dress outfit.
Mia said: ‘I found lots of pink so I’m thinking Madonna’s cone bra.’
The judges said it ‘worked very well’, adding: ‘It’s a simple construction but it’s not going to fall open. Very good, I like that a lot.’
Finally, in the Made-to-Measure Challenge, the sewers take on the legendary supermodel dress.
During the programme, Mia and the other amateur sewers were tasked with crafting a number of garments

Talking about the slinky black dress she designed for the final challenge, the judges said they wished she had adjusted the hemline, and added more chains
These bodycon and body-skimming dresses summed up the glamour and decadence of the decade.
Despite Mia’s worries about her age preventing her from excelling during the week, the 20-year-old ended up wowing the judges with her creations.

In the end, Mia managed to bag herself a spot in the quarter final but it was Lizzie who found she was axed from the contest.
