Will my partner finally step up when our baby is born?

DEAR DEIDRE: OUR baby is due next week but my partner is so useless, I think I should leave him.

We’ve been together for three years, and this is our first baby. I’m 37 and he’s 35.

I’m booked in for a caesarean next week and he’s acting like I’ll be having my appendix out, not bringing our child into the world.

He’s shown no interest in the baby at all, saying he doesn’t mind what sort of baby grows or nappies I buy as, ‘Mum knows best’.

He acts like a kid himself, playing computer games or listening to music, and never doing anything around the flat unless he’s asked to.

He’ll drop his clothes all over the floor and leave dirty dishes in the sink. Then, when I ask him to tidy, he complains that I’m bossing him about or nagging him.

He was happy when I got pregnant, but not even our imminent arrival has made him step up.

I’m starting to wonder if I’d be better off as a single mum.

DEIDRE SAYS: Don’t rush into big decisions right now. You need to concentrate on your health and the baby.

Give him a chance to prove himself when the baby comes.

You need to talk to him about how you feel, and try to work on this together.
