A 32-year-old woman made the shocking discovery, that her 23-year-old boyfriend Miguel, is her adopted nephew.
It comes after Miguel took an at-home DNA test to learn about his genealogy, so he could track down his biological parents. But what he didn’t expect was to find out he has a ‘blood connection’ with his girlfriend.
She explained what happened: “I just found out my boyfriend, 23, is related to me – I don’t know what to do. The only people who know are me, Miguel, and my doctor.”
In terms of how Miguel and the woman are related, the DNA results show Miguel’s mother to be the woman’s 39-year-old sister, named Vanessa, who ran away from home as a teenager.
The woman added: “Vanessa was a troubled child. She ran away at aged 15 and we have never heard from her since.”
The woman moved states and then met Miguel, “who was 20 at the time”, he worked as a part-time intern at the same corporate company the woman worked at.
“Our relationship started as a fling but then it got serious,” she explained. The woman, who has a son from a previous relationship, then “ended up pregnant” and had a son with Miguel.
She is now “currently seven months pregnant” with Miguel’s second baby, a girl, and her “oldest son recognises Miguel as his father”.
Miguel “knew his whole life” he was adopted, and the DNA test revealed he is “half-Hispanic, half-Chinese” and his records showed his birth mother’s name to be Vanessa.
The woman said: “I joked that my half-sister had the same name, but we looked at the medical report which gave information about Vanessa.

“It showed that Vanessa was a minor, aged 16, who signed away her rights and left no contact information. No father was listed.”
Suspicious, the woman ordered her own DNA kit to see whether Miguel’s biological mother Vanessa, was indeed her sister.
“She said: “[The DNA test] confirmed that the two Vanessa’s were the same, meaning Miguel is my nephew – I feel nauseous.”
The woman visited a doctor, and shared her concerns about their children’s genetics, but was relieved there’s nothing wrong with her children.
“My doctor told me that my relationship with Miguel was likely a result of Genetic Sexual Attraction, which occurs when you’re separated from a family member who you likely never met/never remember meeting, or even just being separated for many years,” she said.
Her relationship with Miguel, however, is on the rocks, with him “staying at a hotel”. She commented: “I don’t know what to do. I’m just so confused. We are still in love.”
One Reddit user replied, suggesting: “If this were me I’d just take it to the grave. Don’t tell anyone.

“You already have two kids with him. You both want the same thing. You didn’t know you were related until far too late, and he’s your half-nephew not your full nephew. It’s not quite as bad as full nephew and as long as the kids are healthy, then f*** it.”
Another opined: “Remove your data from the DNA website. It is up to you. The main problem is genetic and you are fine on that one. You have children together so you will always be connected with him, so you cannot exactly ignore him anyway. Take some time to process this and look after yourself for the baby.”
A third wrote: “No no, just no. This was wrong from the very beginning. You were 29 and started dating a 20-year-old intern. Were you his superior at work? But you didn’t stop there, did you? You went and had two kids with him and now he’s adopted your first son.
“Does nobody see anything wrong with this picture? Everyone here is advising you to hide this and delete your DNA profile but no one wants to acknowledge that your behaviour was/predatory. So let’s just bury the truth with keeping in line with your indecent behaviour.
“This young man is going to realise a few years from now how you basically robbed him of his best years with your recklessness. I can’t believe this.”
