Woman finds old coin from 1930s ‘worth £23,000′ while cleaning hoarder’s home

A young business owner was left stunned after discovering a coin worth a small fortune while cleaning a hoarder's home.

Charlotte Bosanquet, 20, from Australia, started her cleaning service in Sydney and has built a successful profile to help people to keep their homes tidy.

She shares her work on TikTok to give viewers an insight into her cleaning routine – from removing grease and grime to restoring floorboards.

The young woman took on a volunteering job to clean a hoarder's home and helped the owner to "get her life" back.

She and her employee spent a weekend removing the bulky items before scrubbing the stains and tackling the mould issue in the rooms.

But Charlotte made an interesting find when she ripped the carpet out – a 93-year-old coin.

"It was at this point when I finally got a tiny snippet into a hoarder's mind and how they actually think," she said at the beginning of the video.

"It's so hard to understand what they are feeling and going through.

"When we are going through all of their things, when they've never let someone into their home for such a long time, when we ripped up this carpet, I realise there is so much history in this house."

As she cut the thick brown carpet into sections, she found layers of newspapers dating back to November 1939, covering the floorboard.

"This lady has lived here for her whole life, we found so many newspapers and even a penny that was valued up to $40,000 (£22,900)."

The rusty-looking penny was embedded between two newspapers and according to Charlotte, the date marked on the coin was 1930.

Some viewers were convinced the coin was placed on the floor to "ward off the evils", but others were more tempted to know if she got to keep the "antique".

The cleaning boss shared in another video: "We did not keep the coin, it's not a case of finders' keepers, it's their property and it's in their house so of course we gave it to her straight away and she was very happy."

A viewer believed the coin could fetch more than £22,000 in the antique market, explaining: "A 1945 penny is worth over $40,000 if it features Thomas Humphrey, servant of King George the 5th."
