    Arteta calls for VAR patience

Mikel Arteta is calling for patience with VAR — as he awaits his fate for criticising the technology.

The Gunners boss will find out next week if he faces any punishment for labelling a decision that cost his side “embarrassing” and a “disgrace”.

But a month on from his rant after a controversial Anthony Gordon goal gave Newcastle a 1-0 win over his side, Arteta has softened his view.

The Spaniard said: “I think we can improve it. We’re trying to do that.

“All those things that are happening I think are probably necessary to improve it and we have to take it that way.

“Technology is taking a huge responsibility in games and it needs time.

“If we use it the right way, we are listening to people, we are open, we are humble and we are trying to be constructive, I think we will get to a really, really good place.”

    Gunns loaded

Arsenal reportedly had eight other names on their transfer wishlist before swooping to sign Kai Havertz.

The Athletic Football Podcast states that Havertz is highly-rated by everybody at his new club.

But Arteta and Gunners transfer chief Edu did have other targets in mind – including an England international.

It claims that Mason Mount, who also left Chelsea for Manchester United in a £60m move this summer, was one.

Experienced German star Ilkay Gundogan, who quit Manchester City to join Barcelona on a free transfer once his contract expired, was another.

Mohammed Kudus, the 23-year-old Ghana international, was also on the list – but ultimately joined West Ham.

And the other person on that list is a man they have held a long-term interest in. That player is Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella, 26, who has 51 caps for Italy.

Pedro Neto could play for any top club

Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has told OLBG that Pedro Neto could play for any top club.

On the Arsenal target, Goodman said: "I think Pedro Neto could go to any of the big clubs – he's that good. Wolves fans are resigned to the fact they will lose him, with respect to them.

“Neto is a top-level player and Wolves can't lay claim to being one of those clubs right now. You have to grab the football opportunities with both hands and embrace the chances to develop your career and play at the highest level – and that means the Champions League. He's that good.

“Wolves will be able to keep Neto in January, and it's promising to hear him talk about how much he loves the club, fans, and the area. He's very settled and he'll have to revisit that in the summer.

“Arsenal are the ones who are linked with him, but I'd be very surprised if most of the big teams aren’t keeping an eye on him. He's been sensational.

    Vlahovic addresses Arsenal links

Dusan Vlahovic has shut down reports linking him with a January move to Arsenal.

The Juventus striker had been rumoured to be an £86million transfer target for the Gunners.

However, he has insisted he is not close to leaving the Italian giants, telling La Gazzetta dello Sport: "I didn’t experience it as a different summer from the others, from my point of view nothing happened.

"I have always been focused and calm, even during the tour in America, when I missed the match against AC Milan due to a physical problem. I have always been calm.

"I was always sure I wanted to stay. The noises are always there, and they are part of the game, if we start listening to everyone, we can go crazy.

"I isolated myself and only thought about the retreat and in the end I’m very happy I stayed. It was what I wanted."

Arsenal tipped for titles if they sign Toney

Piers Morgan believes Arsenal are one signing away from winning both the Premier League and Champions League.

The broadcaster has urged the Gunners to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney to help them challenge on both fronts.

Discussing the prospect of signing Toney, he told talkSPORT: "In the years that we won titles, we had Nicolas Anelka, Ian Wright, Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry, Robin van Persie and players of that calibre.

"We don’t have one of those and if we had one of those, we’d have a great chance of not just winning the Premier League, but winning the Champions League.

"Why shouldn’t we? We’ve made a statement of real intent this week and I think we’ve got a squad that can compete for the Champions League."

    Arsenal icon slams Odegaard

Martin Odegaard has been criticised for being "sloppy" by ex-Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit.

The Gunners captain has also been told "he's not the same player" he was last season.

"My main worry is players burning out by not getting enough rest because that has cost Arsenal over the last couple of seasons," Petit told Lord Ping.

"They’ve lost some really important players to injury. I think the same thing has happened a little bit this season.

"Odegaard is not the same player as he was last season at the moment.

"He looks a bit sloppy in everything that he is doing, and he looks tired mentally and physically. It’s not easy to play every three days and to also play for your country."
