Arsenal outcast Saliba wins Young Player of the Year award in France as boss Arteta battles defensive injury crisis

ARSENAL fans want the club to bring back award-winning William Saliba to help strengthen their defensive options.

The France defender, 21, has just picked up Ligue 1’s Young Player of the Year award after starring on loan for Marseille this season.

The two-cap star was also named in the French top-flight's Team of the Season alongside team-mate and ex-West Ham favourite Dimitri Payet and Paris Saint-Germain's global superstar Kylian Mbappe.

Saliba made a temporary switch to the French giants last summer to get more experience and helped them secure a top-four finish.

He moved to Arsenal in a £27 million deal from Saint-Etienne in July 2019 but is yet to play for their first team.

After news of his award win, Gunners fans took to Twitter to urge the club to bring him back into the Emirates next season.

One tweeted: "He was home sick, he wanted to be close to his family – it was the perfect move for everyone involved. He will now return a more experienced, settled, happier, improved player."

Another said: "Now he gets to come back, with experience, and be a major part of our team. Congrats Wilo, can’t wait to have you back."

And another added: "Can’t wait to see him play for us at last."

After picking up his gong, Saliba said he does not "regret for a minute" going to Marseille and added "only time will tell" if he will stay for another season.
