Bitter Bayern Munich boss Nagelsmann takes swipe at Man Utd, City and Chelsea over transfer splurges

JULIAN NAGELSMANN has taken a dig at the megabucks spending of the Premier League’s giants following the recent transfers of a number of superstars.

Man City’s £100million signing of Jack Grealish and United’s successful move for Raphael Varane are among the moves that have grabbed attention across Europe.

Chelsea smashed their old transfer record with their transfer of former Serie A hotshot Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgium forward, 28, who finished as the second-highest scorer in Italy’s top-flight last term, sealed a £98million return to Stamford Bridge seven years on from leaving the side.

Meanwhile, United, who face Southampton next, splashed £126 million on Varane and former Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

Elsewhere neighbours City broke the duck for money spent on a single signing in British top-flight football with their £100million acquisition of former Aston Villa skipper Jack Grealish

Like many of Europe’s football bosses, Nagelsmann is looking to strengthen his squad with his Bayern Munich side aiming to retain their Bundesliga title.

And the former RB Leipzig gaffer, 34, took a mild swipe at Prem spending when asked about Bayern’s transfer business

When asked if the club had plans to make more signings before the end of the summer window, Nagelsmann said: “We will see

"It's not easy to spend loads of money, we're not in the Premier League.

"If it is possible then perhaps we will get in a new player. If not, it's okay as well and we will work with the players that we have in our squad."

Bayern, who face Borussia Dortmund in a DFL final clash this evening, sealed a £38million deal for former Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano in July this year.

And ex-Reading defender Omar Richards joined the club on a free transfer at the end of last season.

However, it has been reported no money has been generated by the Bundesliga champs so far this summer following Javi Martinez, Jerome Boateng and David Alaba leaving as free agents.

And the Mirror reports there are currently eight Prem sides who splashed more on purchasing players than the German giants including Norwich City and Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace.

It is claimed that Liverpool are the only English Champions League to have splurged less this term.
