A viral video has shown how the power of football even moves those who cannot see their idols light up the World Cup stage.

Lionel Messi scored the opener as Argentina beat Mexico 2-0 on Saturday to keep alive their hopes of making it to the latter stages.

In a video liked more than 266,000 times on Instagram, a father is seen talking his blind 12-year-old son through the goal.

Venezuelan influencer Sebastian Filoramo experienced Messi’s moment in the World Cup spotlight through a game board, following his father’s hands.

When Messi scored, he was overcome with joy, and even took off his cap as part of the celebrations that followed.  

In Spanish, the video caption read: ‘It is not necessary to see to live the passion of soccer. Thank you Messi for giving me these special moments’.

The 12-year-old Venezuelan football fan was overcome with joy when hero Lionel Messi scored

Messi scored the opener as Argentina won 2-0 to keep their hopes of knockout football alive

Up until Messi’s breakthrough just after the hour mark, Argentina were on track to have just one point from their opening two fixtures, after a surprising defeat at the hands of Saudi Arabia.

People have been touched by the father’s love and support, as well as the way Sebastian’s face lit up with joy as the superstar scored.

The Barquisimeto-based boy, who was born without the ability to see, also attracted attention from Reuters for customising World Cup stickers by adding Braille to them, as part of work to make football more accessible to those with vision issues.

He also translated his World Cup sticker book into Braille to raise awareness of sight issues

Enzo Fernandez scored Argentina’s second against Mexico with three minutes remaining to set up an exciting finish to Group C, which could lead to any of the four teams progressing.

Argentina face Poland on Wednesday while Mexico face Saudi Arabia, although only two of those sides will make it to the last-16.
