Bobby Valentine has seemingly done it all, from baseball player to a manager, TV analyst to an athletic director. He has served as a public safety officer, and has been a restaurant owner.

Now, he’s running for mayor of Stamford, Connecticut as an independent candidate.

In a three-minute video published Friday, which opens with Valentine petting two Rough Collies, Valentine announced his campaign for mayor.

“It’s official!” the Stamford native wrote in the post. “I’m seeking your support to be the next Mayor of Stamford, CT!”

Valentine, who served as Director of Public Safety and Health for Stamford, played for the Dodgers, Angels, Mets and Mariners before switching to the managing side of baseball. He managed the Rangers, Mets and Red Sox, as well as the Chiba Lotte Mariners of Nippon Professional Baseball.

The 70-year-old was most recently the athletic director at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT.

“The greatest commodity I have is my time, and I want to give my time and my energy and my wherewithal back to the city that has given me so much over my lifetime,” he said.

Valentine joins the ballot, alongside State Rep. Caroline Simmons, to try and unseat incumbent mayor David Martin, who is running for a third four-year term.

A 1986 entrant into the Connecticut High School Coaches Hall of Fame, Valentine was considered for an ambassador role in Donald Trump’s administration.
