Karen Carney has slammed Manchester United for their handing of Mason Greenwood, stating she felt ‘really uneasy’ with the way the club dealt with the situation.
This comes after it was announced that the forward will leave the club by mutual decision.
The 21-year-old, who was arrested in January 2022 on suspicion of a number of offences including attempted rape, will not play for the club again and is likely to leave on loan or see his contract settled.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carney said: ‘I empathise with anyone that’s been through or has been triggered by the conversations that we’ve been having.
‘Personally I feel really uneasy with the situation. I think Manchester United as an institution and as a football club as what it stands for, has handled this really really poorly.

‘I think from statements that have been confusing and conflicting to everybody, from leaks, from involving stakeholders unnecessarily, i.e. female players, our Lionesses.
I think it’s been really handled poorly. And it is a really uneasy situation for me.’
Greenwood has not played for United, who launched their own probe, since his arrest despite the Crown Prosecution dropping their charges in Gebruary this year.
Mail Sport understands final details are still being arranged. Greenwood will either leave on loan or will have his contract settled.
However, he will not play for the Red Devils again.
It remains to be seen as to what the future holds for Greenwood when his contract at Old Trafford expires, with previous links to Juventus.
