Chelsea ‘open to selling Hakim Ziyech in the summer transfer window after just two hit-and-miss seasons’

CHELSEA are reportedly open to selling Hakim Ziyech over the summer as the club’s new owners prepare to begin a new era at Stamford Bridge.

The 29-year-old moved to the Blues from Ajax in 2020 and has endured an up-and-down time in West London.

Moroccan winger Ziyech still has three years remaining on his £100,000-a-week contract with the Blues.

However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that Chelsea are prepared to sell him as part of a squad overhaul.

The star has made a total of 46 Premier League appearances since his arrival, with 23 of those coming this term, but has only found the net on six occasions.

Chelsea struggled for goals towards the end of the campaign and boss Thomas Tuchel has already hinted he could be looking for new additions to bolster his forward line with the futures of Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku also up in the air.

UK government and Premier League APPROVE Todd Boehly’s Chelsea takeover

He said: “Is it necessary to bring more offensive players around the box to create more distractions, to create more space for each other? We will ask that question.

“The numbers we produce from our offensive players don’t allow us to overperform and we need overperformance if we want to be nearer to the top two teams.”

It remains to be seen how much Chelsea will be asking for Ziyech – but Manchester United have been urged to buy him by Dutch legend Marco van Basten.

He previously played over incoming Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax but it seems unlikely that the Blues would sanction a transfer to a domestic rival.

Van Basten said: “What comes to my mind now is that I think Ziyech who already plays in England could be a very good footballer at Manchester United for Erik.”

Ziyech was a key part of the Ajax team that won the Eredivisie title in 2018 before heading to England.

Despite not starting as many games as he would like, the ace has gone on to enjoy some success since the switch.

He lifted the Champions League during his first season, and followed that up with Uefa Super Cup and Fifa Club World Cup joy over the past campaign.
