Michael van Gerwen has been the subject of criticism for his argument with referee Russ Bray.
The Dutchman lost the Premier League final on Thursday night 6-5 to Jonny Clayton in Aberdeen, Scotland. But the 32-year-old was angry with Bray, who intervened when someone started whistling when Clayton had to throw. The pair got involved in a heated exchange on stage.
After the match, Van Gerwen said about the referee’s performance: “It was extremely irritating. I was dissatisfied because of my own game, but the referee made a mistake."
But darts fans have said that Van Gerwen should ‘show more respect’.
One wrote online: “I am an MVG fan but sorry he was way behind in the leg and was beat fair and square, Russ is an experienced ref deserves more respect for me."
Another blasted: “Van Gerwin is always encroaching, and making noises with his darts NEVER LIKED HIM.”
A third said: “Always seems to be someone else’s fault when he gets beat.”

A fourth stated: “I am an MVG fan but sorry he was way behind in the leg and was beat fair and square, Russ is an experienced ref deserves more respect for me.”
Clayton won on night 11 of the Premier League, having beaten Gary Anderson and Peter Wright in the opening two matches of the night. The Welshman went to the top of the table ahead of Van Gerwen with 26 points. "By night 16 I don't care where I am as long as I'm in the top four," said Clayton. "The crowd were on my back all night as you'd expect with playing two Scottish guys but I got on with it.
"I did my job in the last leg and pulled through to win it. To beat Michael puts a smile on my face. Every time Michael and I play it's a good game. There have been a lot of times when I've stood behind Michael and lost 6-0 or 6-1 but you pick little things up off him to improve your game."
