Derby picking Chris Kirchner as preferred bidder in huge boost for current boss Wayne Rooney

DERBY COUNTY are picking American businessman Chris Kirchner as their preferred bidder – in a huge boost for Wayne Rooney.

Kirchner will get the chance to close the deal for the Rams and take them out of administration after returning to the chase for the club.

The owner of Slync.io tried to buy Derby when it first came on the market but pulled out when his proposals fell short.

But after spending a month trying to take over Preston North End Kirchner went back to his first choice when hearing there was a better deal available for the stadium.

Kirchner originally demanded Mel Morris took much less than £20million for the ground.

Now the local council are in talks to buy the ground and then lease it to the next owner.

However, Kirchner and his team tabled a fresh offer for the club and will attempt to rush through the move as soon as possible after seven months of administration heartache.

This will be a massive lift for boss Rooney who backed Kirchner after meeting him when he first tried to get the cris hit club.

Rooney and Kirchner forged an instant friendship and the American is desperate for the young boss to stay in charge.

Kirchner will have to pass the EFL director’s test and show his funds and where they came from. However there should be no snags on that front.

But the deal may also see Derby docked a further 15 points THIS season that would guarantee relegation.

The size of the offers to the creditors will be below the 25p in the pound demanded by the EFL. But to speed the takeover through it will mean a total of 36 points off their total.

But the good news is that means Derby will start next season in League One without having to cope with a massive penalty.
