ARSENAL are closing in on Ever Banega after the Argentinian’s agent flew to London.

Unai Emery wants to bring the experienced midfielder to the Emirates as he continues his Gunners revolution.

Banega, 30, has an £18million release clause in his Sevilla contract which Emery is prepared to trigger.

It is understood the Argentina international has recently changed his representatives in a bid to seal a move away from the La Liga side.

And, according to Mundo Deportivo, his new agent has spent Christmas in the English capital to hold talks with Arsenal chiefs.

Emery has twice previously worked with Banega during spells with Valencia and Sevilla – where the pair won the Europa League in 2015 and 2016.

And it has been reported that the Spanish boss sees his former star as the ideal replacement for departing Aaron Ramsey.

Emery has brought in Lucas Torreira and Mateo Guendouzi to add steel to the Gunners’ previously lightweight midfield.

And tenacious Banega will add further bite in the middle of the park.

Banega started his career with Boca Juniors before joining Valencia in 2008.

He is currently in his second spell with Sevilla, having also played for European giants Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan.

A deal would represent a further break from Arsene Wenger's policy of signing young players with resale value.

Emery has already added 34-year-old Stephan Lichtsteiner and defender Sokratis, 30, since joining in the summer.
