31min: Everton must do better here. Now a cross finds Abdoulaye Doucoure inside the box unmarked, but he poorly heads way over the crossbar.

28min: Can’t say for sure, but it’ appears Spurs supporters are chanting ‘he’s magic you know, Mauricio Pochettino.’ from their small section on the touchline.

It’s clear to see who they want to replace Antonio Conte at the club as manager, with their former boss.

25min: Goodison Park can be a bit quiet these days when things are not going well, but the home fans are very involved so far as they roar on their side in hounding down the visitors when they have possession.

22min: Lloris not being involved is perhaps good news for Spurs judging by his latest involvement. A free-kick into the box leads to the keeper coming off his line and making a bit of a mess with his punch clear before his defence bail him out.

19min: End to end stuff so far. Plenty of optimism for both sides in attack but I would say suggest Tottenham look a tad more dangerous so far with Lloris not having much to do on his Spurs return.

16min: Big let-off for Everton. Eric Dier picks out Ivan Perisic with an excellent crossfield ball, whose cross is just as good for Kane.

The England captain though is unable to steer his effort on goal, heading just wide of the bottom corner.

13min: Not just Everton fans on the protest this evening by the way. Tottenham supporters are also making their feelings towards club owners ENIC known giving their record of just one trophy in their 22 years at the club.

10min: And now Keane nearly scores a sensational strike at the other end! From a free-kick the ball is flicked into his path on the edge of the box but his turn and volley just dips over the crossbar.

8min: Good start to this game from both sides. Spurs now counter attack through Oliver Skipp and after the ball falls for Harry Kane inside the box, his eventual shot is crucially blocked by Michael Keane, with the ball then looping into the hands of keeper Jordan Pickford.

5min: Spurs respond with a top ball to Pedro Porro running into the box on the right, but he elects against a cushioned volley across the box for Harry Kane to tuck home, taking an extra touch before his delivery and it proves crucial for the Everton defence who get back in time to block the avenue to the England striker.

2min: First chance for Everton, who counter attack through Alex Iwobi, with the midfielder dancing past Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg before finding Demarai Gray on the edge of the box.

The forward attempts to bend a shot across goal towards the top corner but he just misses the target.

Here is a reminder of the starting line-ups:

Everton: Pickford, Coleman, Keane, Tarkowski, Godfrey, Iwobi, Doucoure, Gueye, Onana, McNeil, Gray.
Subs not used: Holgate, Mina, Begovic, Mykolenko, Maupay, Davies, Coady, Garner, Simms.

Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris, Romero, Dier, Lenglet, Porro, Skipp, Hojbjerg, Perisic, Kulusevski, Son, Kane.
Subs not used: Sanchez, Danjuma, Forster, Tanganga, Lucas Moura, Sarr, Austin, Devine, Mundle.

Referee: David Coote (Nottinghamshire)

As mentioned this game is big for both teams, with Spurs hoping to move up into third and Everton looking to climb out of the relegation zone.

‘I had 35 people coming to the pitch without shoes!’: Cristian Stellini is used to management under trying circumstances after Antonio Conte’s exit – having coached a team of refugees and misfits – including ‘a goalkeeper without one eye!’

GERRY COX: Crisis? What crisis? Cristian Stellini has plenty of perspective on football as he takes over at Tottenham in the post-Antonio Conte era, having seen the rough end of the game 10 years ago when he won cup glory with a team of refugees and misfits, who had no boots, a one-eyed goalkeeper and a player on the run from the law.

Can’t really blame the Everton supporters though who have been protesting against their club’s board before the game.

A club the size of the Toffees should be no where near the relegation zone, let alone the financial turmoils off the pitch.

Hugo Lloris returns to the Tottenham side as they begin life after Antonio Conte at Everton.

The French goalkeeper has been out since February with a knee injury but returns to the side for the first match since Conte’s exit in the international window.

Everton are unchanged from the side that drew at Chelsea as they are looking to climb out of the relegation zone.

Team news on the way next…

Still a bit nippy out of the sun, but when evenings are as bright as this heading towards an hour before kick-off, you know we are heading into the run-in for the Premier League season.

Just in case they passed you by, here are how the other nine matches finished on Saturday and Sunday  – which of course then saw the rather surprising managerial exits of Graham Potter and Brendan Rodgers from Chelsea and Leicester City respectively.

But which of the crisis clubs will come out on top? Will it be Everton and looming financial woes and potential Premier League relegation hanging over them, or will it be Tottenham who are without a manger neither a functioning sporting director.

Off to the circus we go as I welcome you to our live coverage of Everton vs Tottenham at Goodison Park.
