GARETH BALE is reportedly closing in on a free transfer to MLS club Los Angeles FC.

The 32-year-old Welshman has been heavily linked with a move to Championship outfit Cardiff.

But the MLS official website has now confirmed that LAFC are finalising a deal for the ex-Real Madrid star.

He will join former Juventus and Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini who has also agreed a deal to link up with the west coast outfit from July 1.

Bale became a free agent at the end of last season after his contract with the Spanish giants expired.

And he made it clear earlier this month that his desire to play club football now comes from wanting to be in the best possible shape for Wales' World Cup campaign at the end of this year.

Speaking about his club future while away on international duty, Bale said: “The World Cup influences it. Any player will have one eye on the World Cup because it’s a major tournament that everyone wants to play in and test themselves.

“I want to be playing going into the World Cup to be as fit as I can. Once I play regular football my body will get more robust and better.

“It’s very difficult when you’re in and out of a team. I need to play games and I’ll be good to go.

“I’m obviously not doing football for the money. I want to be playing to get that fitness for the competition and to help the club I’m at. 

“Whoever I go to it'll be a win-win because I'll be playing, hopefully playing well and getting myself ready for the World Cup.”
